There is some controversy right now over pain killers and issues with stomack pain, and the FDA is moving to have warnings placed on medication bottles, especially on those medicines classed as "NSAID"s. Some people have found some success using OTC antacids such as Prilosec or Gaviscon, and eating a meal, even a small one, should also lessen the stomach upset. If the stomach discomfort is too bad, then consult your doctor about having a different medication prescribed.

Try taking it with some food such as crackers or toast. Some medicines are harsh on the stomach and need to be taken before or after meals or with some food to decrease the risk of developing stomach/GI problems, such as ulcers and nausea. However, depending on the med you need to watch what you take with it as some foods can actually decrease absorption, etc. What pain medication are you currently taking? Try looking up the med on the manufacturer website.

I'm not sure which pain medication you're taking. However, if you are taking an opioid, you may want to ask your doctor about fentanyl, a transdermal medication. Its brand name is Duragesic, and it is absorbed through the skin by patches applied usually every 72 hours (similarly to the nicoteine patches). Because the drug absorbed by the skin does not need to travel through the gastrointestinal system, the effects on the stomach are considerably less.

Easier on your stomach how?

If you're getting nausea or heartburn, it may be an adverse side affect that suggests you need to discontinue using the medication.

If it's just a "sour stomach" or something mildly agitating, then try eating bread before you down the pill, as the starch in bread will help eliminate excess acid.

If you're taking NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), like Tylenol (acetaminophen), or Motrin (ibuprofen), they're notorious for causing stomach problems. Instead of taking it with milk or water, try taking them with food. Best of luck to you.

eat some bread with it.
Also, some medications are REALLY ROUGH on your stomach.
Talk to your physician, tell him your problem and ask for a different prescription.
There are pain meds that don't attack the stomach that much.
