Historians don't make people important, the general populace makes people seem more influential than others, based on their opinions of that person's actions. I honestly don't think he's any different from any other philosopher out there, besides the fact that he had a defined monotheisitc perspective of things, and believed he was the only person so in touch with this deity that he called himself the Only Begotten Son of his god. Why should it be important to you? Why are you asking other people? YOU decide what impacts you and what doesn't. Jesus as the person may not have an impact on you, but, being that we live in a society saturated with a religion born of European royalty and propogated through death and persecution, it's kind of difficult not to be influenced by his fundamental followers.

The more research that gets done the more obvious it becomes that Jesus is mythological. Historically it is not Jesus, it is the Churches and their roles in politics that is of interest, even today with the effects of the American Fundamentalists in National and International politics or the role of Islamic Fundamentalism in the Middle East.

edit to above: Historians do not agree that Jesus existed. Increasingly they are even moving away from the standard position that it does not matter to history. Most Historians are specialized in small areas and Christianity is a condition previous to their researches. Those who specialize in the Bible as a historical document or of the times around Ceaser Augustus or Vespasian take a much different view.

The serious stuff is buried in poorly funded research papers.

Historians agree that a Jesus existed. He changed history- he started a new religion and we measure time based on his arrival on earth. Time before the birth of Jesus if denoted BC (Before Christ), in today's society they have now changed that to BCE (Before Common Era). BCE or BC- same difference, this was a time before the birth of Jesus on earth. Time after Jesus' birth is/ was denoted AD (in the year of our Lord) but now soem say- CE (Common Era). Again, same difference, AD or CE after Jesus' birth.

He is different from all other men as he is the only person born without sin and born of a virgin- no human sperm involved.

Why is all this important. So that humans can be saved from sin and the curse of sin- which is daeth and free to experience eternal life. Jesus was born, lived, died and was resurrected so that you and I can get back into a relationship with God the Father and to experience eternal life. Jesus came to give you life, to give me (to give all humans) abundant life.

Jesus is nothing like other men because he is God who came to earth and lived and died as a man. He was also resurrected 3 days after his death and there hundreds of eye witnesses. He is still doing miracles today but of course he is invisible. He has answered many of my prayers and that of others.

He is the savior of the world. He died so all of humanity's sins could be forgiven and we could all live with God after we are dead. We have to accept this free gift though and believe in him for it to work. We have to live a good life and follow his example.

Jesus is what Rama is to Hindus, Buddha is to the Buddhists, Mahavira is to Jainis, Mohammad is to the Muslims. If you take away Jesus from the Christianity you won't have other than some old stories. Maybe Jesus is not important to all those who belong to a different faith but for Christians Jesus is everything.

Jesus Carmona is a Mexican family man who lives down the street from me. As far as I can tell he is a good guy. Never had any problems. His kids are a little rowdy sometimes but never cause any real trouble. I think he works for an advertising agency in Manhattan.

Jesus predicted the stars will fall from heaven (Matthew 24), how's that going to happen?
Historians rate him as wild-eyed predictor, whose followers generated a great legend for him.
