Aesthetically challenged creatures that live under bridges and eat unfortunate travelers.

Or, someone who posts inflammatory questions and answers just to get an emotional response from people. Some trolls are very sophisticated. Being a great troll does take intelligence as well as immaturity. A great troll is someone that can stir things up without anyone realizing that the pot is getting stirred.

Here's a good example of a good troll. A "girl" claims to be 14 and to have just had sex and an argument about it with her parents. She seeks our advice and we give it. She posts another question about being called a 2 dollar whore at school and asks our advice. Either question on it's own is valid, but combine the two, plus the fact that they are her only two questions and it becomes hard to tell if "she" is just messing with us or is actually a mixed up kid in need. Very sophisticated if it's a troll. Very sad if it's not.

When Liberals/Progressives/Socialists espouse their philosophy in a chat room like this site, and someone has a differing position (Conservatives/Republicans mostly) on the subject matter..they are labeled "trolls". It actually hurts the left's cause to some extent because they are supposed to be of the philosophy of openmindedness to new ideas, unfortunately that is far from the case. Hope that helps..
