They search airline websites as well as search engines (e.g. Orbitz, OneTravel, Travelocity, etc.).
I always use them; however, if you get a deal through them that's at Orbitz, if it's all on one airline, go to that airline's website, and see if it's cheaper there. There may be a difference of +/- $5-10.

Just shop around online. My experience is that airlines offer the cheapest flights directly through their own websites - some airlines even guarantee it. Most sites like expedia.com charge a "booking fee" of $5 or more as well and don't offer any cheaper fares than the airlines. Also Southwest Airlines ONLY offers their fares on their own website so check there as well, although they're not always the cheapest option in my experience. If you're flexible at all about which airport to fly out of it might help but probably you won't save enough to make it worth it. Also if you're flexible about the dates it may help too - flying midweek is often cheaper.

Your ultimate bets are: Delta (doing that run in some weeks) SouthWest or Alaska Air - Jet Blue would not fly into Seattle as yet. verify the above web pages and evaluate - I even have never had any luck with the different mentioned information superhighway sites extremely not that the regulations for flying have replaced lots. Plus orbitz and others are actually not inevitably from now on low-value. besides, Seattle is a eye-catching place - I fly into SeaTac on my thank you to Bellingham, WA. each and every 3-4 weeks..have exciting..:)

Planning ahead is good. A lot of times there will be special sales (especially southwest airlines) that occur about 90-120 days before you plan to take off.
From previous years, I have been able to get good airfares when waiting to about 90-120 days off and seeing a special being released.
This year however, maybe be different as there are less flights available.

Book in advance about 7 - 9 months out and you should be ok on price. Flight prices are based on availability. If the dates you choose are very filled up and the following week isn't, then the price will change. Find a good agent and we can tell you IF it's a good price or not. Hey I do it all the time with people, tell them I think it's to high.
