I have a 15 year history of anxiety disorders. I've had a severe relapse lately. I took Zoloft for 2 months and then switched last week to Lexapro. For the past month or so in the mornings I often wake up and feel anxious and nauseous, sometimes gag, and three times in the last 2 weeks I have actually thrown up. Could the vomiting and nausea be caused by my anxiety disorder or is something terrible wrong with me?

Yes! it is anxiety. My friend has had on and off anxiety problems for years and years. She gets extremely worried and nervous randomly and throws up. We always have to pull over to the side of the road so she can puke. this is completley normal. Just calm down! don't worry!!! Please don't take this the wrong way---Please! At least your symptoms carry through! I have had panic attacks in the past and go through everything you describe, all but the vomiting. Gagging is the worst. It got so I couldn't brush my teeth! Nothing is terribly wrong with you, it's just the anxiety. Your med change could have some side effects but not so drastic. When I first started having panic attacks I read a book called "Anxiety and You". This was years ago and I don't know if the book is available any longer. I worked at bookstore and read it during a lunch hour.(very small book) I felt better after reading it. It didn't cure me, but I realized I wasn't going to die and could control some of the minor attacks afterward. Continue with your drugs. Don't stop unless you talk to your doc. Good Luck!

I have had on and off anxiety issues for years too and have vomitted from being so anxious. When you get nauseous, start drinking water and taking very deep breaths from your belly. That will help you begin to calm down. It could even be a side-affect from the drug therapy. Look into getting some biofeedback training for anxiety. I got some and am now certified in biofeedback and it has helped immesly.

Vomiting can be a symptom of anxiety, however if you're on meds and you're experiencing the nausea/vomiting on a regular basis, you need to let your doctor know about this.

There are plenty of other reasons you could be having this problem too, only a medical professional familiar with you and your medical history should be the source you turn to.

Best of luck and take care of yourself!

Anxiety sickens the body. Could be a result but also could be the medicine. Best to speak with your doctor about this.

P.S. When I had anxiety problems at a high level years ago, I would throw up before leaving the house for work and would cry in my car at lunch time.

Best of luck.

If you are a natural person you should try cognitive behavioral therapy. It was the only thing that has helped me with my horrible health anxiety. Read here https://tr.im/RemediesForAnxiety

Your thinking determines your quality of life. Your thinking is what causes you these feelings:

Anxious, fearful, stressed or depressed
Constantly worried, or angry about something that is happening in your life
Struggling to overcome obsessive and negative thoughts.

If you change your thinking, you will change your life. This is the basic idea behind CBT for anxiety. The Cognitive part is where you learn nee methods and ways to change your same old habits and thinking patterns. If you keep thinking and expecting the worst – You will continue to suffer.

Both can cause vomiting. Vomiting is not uncommon when someone has chronic anxiety. I suggest lots and lots of reading and meditation tapes/courses/classes as well as talk therapy. And of course, get tested. Meds can cause nausea too.
