So about 5 months back I backed up into a stupid boulder and damaged the rear driver side panel of my truck. I never got it fixed due to the lack of $. Two days ago while I was at a concert, somebody backed up into the same area of my truck and then and took off without leaving any info. I made the police report and everything but my question is will I be able to get the old damage fixed along with the new damage without having to pay extra?

What did you tell the police officer? If you told him that there were two separate accidents and he wrote that in the report then you might have a problem. If you did not tell him or if he did not put it in the report then you could possibly keep quiet and sneak it through the insurance process as one hit. It will depend on whether the damage looks like it all came from the same incident. If they are two distinct areas or one part is rusted from 5 months of bare metal exposed to the elements the adjuster will be able to tell. Did you file a police report on the first accident? If you didn't your insurance company might have the option to deny that claim depending on their policies and your state laws. If you have to claim it as two accidents they may also make you pay two deductibles and will probably raise your rates for the two claims in such a short period. I hope you make it with one claim. Good luck and Happy New Year.

I'm assuming you don't have collision coverage, or you would have gotten it repaired when you did the last damage. So who were you going to charge this time? The person who didn't leave any information's insurance company?

If you do have collision, your insurance will pay for repairs, less your deductible. If you don't, and they never find the other person, it will go unfixed again unless you pay. Morally you should report the existing damage if they do happen to find the person.

Make a claim for the original damage -- possible that the additional damage will make little if any difference as far as repair costs go. If it does, the insurance company will adjust for related damages.

They'll deduct for the old un-repaired damage. Most of the time that will leave you enough for a couple of beers at a sleazy roadhouse if it even covers your deductible.
