Preare to be the best! You can run some to get in shape do some sit-ups and puulups. pushups and any excersiza you can. But most of all try to talk to guys who just graduated, most likely at youre recruiting station on recruiters assistance. Try to get a hold of the General orders and study them. Learn how to use a guidon, so you can be guide, ask youre recruiter. Especially try to get a hold of a B.S.T and study it before you go. You really want to be in the best shape you can so you can handle the physical part, (which really isnt the hard part). You mostly need to prepare youreself mentally. remember everyones address so you can write to them cause it helps alot. Mentally prepare yourself though, Its all mental!!! Go in with the thought of being the best and nothing less. Cause when you graduate you will be just that. Remember that you joined cause you and only you wanted to. It is a honor to be a Marine. You should never let anyone tell you otherwise. Its fun once you are in the fleet. And always remember that you protect the freedom of America. Thats why those idiots who answered before..get to say what they want. Its called freedom of speech it is one of the rights you will be protecting in America. If you do get the chance to go to Iraq you will see it is one that many didnt have there before the United States invaded. Always remember that no matter what you are protecting yourself and you bros in the Corps. When it all comes down to it (in battle) that is all you are really doing! Learn all you can and be the best! But before you go study and workout. Just a heads up. The PFT consist of a 3 mile run pullups,( 4 min and 20 max) and situps. Do as many as you canof each every other day before you go to bootcamp. It will help. I hope this help motivate you and you have a good time At the Depot. All the Drill Instructors are trying to do is make Marines out of you.
Semper Fi Bro.
Oh yeah try not to cry when they are giving you the Eagle Globe And Anchor.....

You're right, it is COOL!!! You should join if you think it's cool nevermind what everyone else said... Boot camp sucks... that's the point. Not every day in the Navy is cool and being able to hack it day in and day out is what makes you cool. If you can't hack it and if you want to do drugs while you're in than you're a loser and it's guys like that that bring it down for everyone and make it uncool. So if you have the right stuff and your willing to put in 100% and than 10% more than you will get 110% out of it. So if you wanna be cool sign up and whenever you have a bad day and you think it sucks remember how bad it could be... and remember that your better than 99% of the population and you will be happy cause you will be cool!!! Good luck, see you about the fleet

Obviously the assholes that answered previously, have no idea or courage. Must all be chicken face liberals......
I congratulate you on tour choice and thank you for choosing to serve and not hide behind you Mommies apron and complain about things.
Marines are the best of the best!!! You can expect hard work, long hours, and at time you will ask" why am I here?" It will all be worth it the day you graduate and become a United States Marine.
Best thing to prepare, is not listen to these sniveling crybaby cowards....Keep a positive attitude and keep your patiotism high.
Get your self in as good a physical and mental shape as you can and just do it. OOOOOH RAAAH !!!!! SEMPER FI !!!!

Don't listen to all the aholes. They only want to live in a free country but do not want to thank and support the men and women who are fighting for them. I have had several friends who went to the Marines and they thought it was hard but well worth it. I work with a guy that went over to Iraq twice and he says that we really need to be there. He saw so many innocent people getting hurt and killed for no reason. He said one of The neatest thing was handing out candy and crayons to the children. They just love the Americans and are so happy that they have paper and crayons. The boot camp will be hard but it will teach you a lot about yourself and how much this Land needs people like you who love their country enough to help keep us safe. Bless you and thank you!

You can expect some pretty rigorous physical training and some equally challenging mental exercises! Physically, start running every day. If you can, get up to a respectable five miles each day. At the same time, start building your upper body strength. You will be expected to do a minimum of fifty push-up at a time, but even more challenging , is five to ten pull-ups.
Be prepared to talk only when spoken to. Be prepared to start out by saying sir before another word is spoken, end your comments by saying sir, as well. This, of coarse, is when you are in dialog with your DI. Never, ever use pronouns when talking with a DI. Instead of saying you, or I, you refer to the DI as "the drill instructor, or the senior drill instructor. You refer to yourself as Pvt. Jones.' You never blurt out anything to a DI, if you need to talk with a DI, you approach him, standing at attention, you say: Sir, Pvt Jones requests permission to speak with the drill instructor, sir! Remember, 'sir' is the operative word, and you use it twice, at the beginning and at the end of each question or comment with your DI.
Hell, I've got you thru your first week of boot camp already, the rest is up to you. Semper FI!

Thank-You from me to Autumn - Juan d. They are absolutely right. I am a Semper Fi mom and proud of my son. They told you the truth. Run, Sit ups, Crunches, Pull ups, Swim, Shooting, Standing in 1 place for extended periods of time at attention, Speaking correctly, learning the Marine manual. Any decent recruiter will help you with good advice. My sons' recruiter ran with him every day until he left for boot camp. Good luck and Thank-you from me for all that you are doing for America.

Run, run and run some more. It's all about endurance.
Ignore the idiots who posted previously about not joining. They are ignorant, useless pieces of crap that like to sit on their butts and have everything handed to them.
Oohrah!

Open your mind to learn the way of great warriors and expect no thanks from fools. Many will hate you, the righteous will honor you. It is the way of warriors.
