It's not about justification. It's about necessity. Everyone makes bad choices. Given better options, I would just as soon live in peace than war. Unfortunately, there are people out there who really want to kill you, me and everyone I care about. If stopping them means taking a life, I'll do that. Not gladly, but I would still do it.
You seem to have this idea that everyone will just come to the classroom or church and accept your ideas because they are so reasonable & wonderful. That's not always the case. That's not even the case most of the time. Maybe one day it will be, but I don't think that day will come anytime soon.

No one ever becomes OK with the killing of another human, but In some cases it is necessary. Saddam was very evil, If we did not execute him, then we would have paid to keep him alive like so many others in prisons in the US. The Iraqi government sentenced him to death...NOT Bush, I am so tired of hearing that Bush is the reason for this whole war, Bush is not responsible, He would have been responsible if he did nothing. America Grow up and smell the coffee, this has been going on long before 911, and the next president will face the same scrutiny. If you have never been to a country what has lost its freedom like Iraq or Afghanistan and seen first hand what these people went thru from this evil man...quit your cryin....Where is your compassion? there seems to be more people concerned about what Saddam went thru rather than the torture and suppression he put millions thru for 55 years!! I fight for freedom of all who seek it anywhere around the globe....NOT just here in the USA, that would be a selfish act and I will gladly pay the ultimate price for that freedom...Why? Because that what I do and I don't B it ch about it!!!

I totally agree & understand the "ant" story. In that situation we were "killing" for fun, to be mean, to do something cool,....the ants being completely innocent. That's why you realize it was a mistake & regret it. also b/c you have moral fiber & a conscious. That is the difference between a cold blooded murderer & the rest of humanity. Take self defense, if the right situation the most loving & caring person in the world is capable of taking a life to protect a loved one. Now, Saddam knew what he did was wrong, beyond wrong actually, horrific. He continued to do things that are unthinkable. placing ppl in acid baths, using electiric prods the private areas of men & women alike, torturing & murdering ppl - video taping the torture sessions & then watching his henchmen carry out the evil he ordered. The execution of such a person is acceptable & the world a safer place b/c of it. Just like the serial murderers & rapists & child molesters/killers they aren't ever rehabilitated, they are repeat offenders, & the only way to stop them, is to stop them.

If the others were intent on killing those I loved. I'd take their lives, yes. There's all sorts of hypothetical alternatives one can come up with, but in the end it'll always come down to that. It's not an act of hate for the other, but love for your people that make the difference. It's NOT o.k. but neccessary, and I pity the man who has so little love for his own that he'd not do the same.

I will let God be the judge of that. Even Saddam Hussein was afraid to die just like anyone else. What was he afraid of??
perhaps meeting Allah?
Some people just like to be powerful and rich and use any method to achieve this goal. Others like to be powerful and rich but achieve this goal legally through socially acceptable means.
Everyone makes their own decisions in life.

Violence and murder have been a part of humanity since the dawn of humankind. Get over it already. Saddam's karma caught up with him ... Think of the thousands of Kurdish children who choked to death on his deadly nerve gas. I swear this country is doomed ! Hopefully the silent majority in this country are conservatives who cherish their freedom . Otherwise we can all start thinking about the call to prayer 5 times a day, and have our wives fitted for one of those pretty bourkas.

Thank you. I'm with you - how people can kill other human
beings is beyond me.
I find human beings killing defenseless animals disturbing
enough.
