I did not read the book, but I browsed through it at a bookstore a few weeks ago. It's the typical standard diet-and-exercise fare. I didn't realize this Mehmet Oz guy was so popular, but save your money. There's nothing new in there.

One thing that did jump out at me was that they emphasized eating higher-protein meals than most of the "low-fat" proponents. That's good advice. They didn't go so far as to say "do a low-carb diet," or make it Atkins-like, but at least they did say eat high-protein. I agree with this.

The exercise advice was the standard fare: start out slowly, build up your endurance, do weight training, stretching, and cardio.

Really - save your money. If you really want to read the book, put a hold on it at the library. I assume since it's brand-new, many people will want to read it and you won't be able to find it on the library shelf. So put a hold on it, the library will call you when it is your turn to check it out.

My advice is a zero-carb or low-carb diet, plenty of pumping iron, and some aerobic exercise most days of the week for at least 45 minutes. If you have extra weight to lose, 6 days a week at 45-60 minutes of exercise is probably the only way to trim down. But you must be low- or no-carb. There is more and more research coming out that high-carb diets don't work in the long run, and the U.S. has the obesity and diabetes rates to prove it. So keep it low- or no-carb. I've been no-carb for 15 years. Animal products only.

Good luck!

I have read bits and pieces of it. It makes sense. Some of the recipes are pretty tasty as well. Anything that Oprah touts has to be good, right?
