...Shoot people who continually repeat inaccuracies and flat-out lies about scientific theories (which they probably heard from their preachers, who I'm sure are experts) as well as logical fallacies to support their religion? Those people are annoying, and let's face it, the rest of us would be much happier without them.

Of course. . . and they should be allowed to shoot you for violating their right to ignorance. . . or, wait, what. . . you mean this is a rant and not a question??? Oh, I'm so damn slow I didn't notice.

You know, I get angry and aggrieved at many things in our society, ignorance being just one cause. But this kind of statement just adds to the general deficit of civility in public discourse and increases distrust between parties. Call me naive but I've vowed not to participate in the popular denigration of my opposites in public discussion in the hope that everyone can make a small contribution to improving society in this way.

I also figure that I'm more likely to gain adherents to my point of view with a well reasoned and impassioned statement of those principles rather than a firebombing of another's point of view.

That doesn't mean I simply let inaccuracies or lies stand without challenge but I don't rise to the provocations made by some.

I believe in the personal use of deadly force in order to defend your person or the person of another that is in imminent danger. If we shot everybody that it stupid and annoying I doubt if any of us would be around. Well, OK, I guess their would be one person left.
