I hear many times by people that those who believe in witchcraft and/or magick are either "childish" or "retarded". It's very funny when someone who prays or believes in a higher power says this...

Definition of "Superstition":

"a belief or notion, not based on reason or knowledge, in or of the ominous significance of a particular thing, circumstance, occurrence, proceeding, or the like."

"irrational fear of what is unknown or mysterious, esp. in connection with religion"

Im overwhelmed with irony.

My question..

Who are these people to say that someone elses superstitious beliefs are anymore "retarded", "childish", or "wrong" than their own superstitious beliefs? Do they believe other superstitious people are "retarded" because their superstition says they are?

No, I do not believe in Satan as a deity, I do not worship Satan, the Devil, Lucifer, El Diablo, or whatever you want to call him. Satan does not exist.

Generally, the people who think witchcraft is "childish" are either relaying the prejudice they've been taught in church (that *all* beliefs that aren't their own are a sign of spiritual immaturity), or they've only met "wannabe" witches... teens who are fascinated by the occult and exploring their own spirituality.

If those are the only "witches" a person has met, it'd be easy to form the opinion that the whole religion & its related practices are nothing more than a foolish attempt to make one's identity out of flashy jewelry and spooky words.

The ones who think it's "retarded" because pagan witches "don't believe in Jesus," are just establishing their own ignorance about religion in general... they think that their own faith is founded on some kind of logic instead of personal revelation that's not transmittable to other people.

(What I use in describing atheistic Satanism: A Satanist strives for satan-nature, the way a Buddhist strives for buddha-nature or a Taoist tries to arrange his life in accordance with the Tao. "-ist" means "follows the spiritual path of," not "believes in the supreme existence of.")

It's true that many modern Satanists use magick in their practices. It's quite similar to Wiccan magick because it has alot to do with focus and mindset. The biggest difference is that we believe we are working in concert with Deity while doing this and Modern Satanists do it for purely symbolical purposes to focus energy.

Satanists are even more misunderstood by the general public than Wiccans, so I respect your openness to talk about your religion. Thanks.

I do believe you have a right to your own believes. I do have a question.
How can you be an atheist Satanist? Don't you believe there is a Satan then and that He is Deity?

When it comes from someone else who has their own set of beliefs about a Deity and prayer and worship, I just laugh.

Witchcraft is just as valid as any other religion, and should be seen that way.
