My daushund died Christmas Day of Parvo. The highschooler at the front desk at the Vet's office didn't tell the Vet we asked for boosters so Make sure you tell them yourself and save yourself what the kids and us went through.
So I took the G. Retreiever to the Vet the next day and she is clean. But she has diarrea(mucus in it) and vomits(everything she eats). They gave a stool hardner which ran out and something to calm her stomach but if that pill starts to wear out she gets sick again. I'm almost out of pills and it's a holiday. What do I do and what could this be?

Call your Vet's office and see if he has an answering / pager service.

If that doesn't work, go to the nearest ER Vet Clinic.

As the above site will make clear : vomitting + diarrhea = call your vet .

Is the Golden a puppy?? Puppies get parvo. 2nd, did the dachsund (which I assume was a puppy) have all the rounds of vaccines that it needed, because they need 3-4 shots before they reach 4 months old. Healthy adult dogs don't normally get parvo.

If your dog is vomiting and having diarhea, you may need to find an emergency clinic. If you call your regular vet they should have either a referring number or an answering service with a list of referring numbers. You may have to drive a little ways to get there, and more pricey than a regular clinic. But if the dog is seriously ill, it's necessary.

Could your dog have gotten into any toxins?
Could it have eaten something to upset it's digestive system?
How old is it?
was it vaccinated?
was it in the same areas the dachsund was?

Parvo can stay in the environment for up to 6 months. No puppies in/around your home for at least a year.

Feed her only rice than slowly add ground chicken (no fat) to the rice. Can you get her to take about 2 Tbs. of Pepto Bismol until you can get her back to the vet?
Even tho' she checked out o.k. I hope she doesn't have Parvo as it is very, very contagious. Obviously you owned these to dogs already but for pet owners who have lost a pet to Parvo, they need to wait a year before getting another. I heard a vet say that it can even be in the soil where the infected dog was kept.
If there is no improvement by tomorrow I would take her to a 24 hr. emergency vet.

Try fasting for the day. Than give some food the next day but not to much if your dog holds his food down than give him more. If it continues I would call the vet and see if he takes emergency phone calls or if he could give you some advice. Good Luck hope this works and your dog gets well. Best wishes in the New Year.

for now liquids. try to see if she can handle gatorade or pedialyte it will help keep her hydrated and replace all the lost electrolytes. i would try pedialyte first its more gentle. you know she won't handel food much so try little amounts at a time and make sure she drinks the pedialyte, she should like it because it tastes sweet. as for what is wrong i have no idea but keep her hydrated because dehydration is worse than no food for a couple days.

Call and see if your vet has an answering service, or directs you to an emergency vet. It sounds to me like there's more to this than the medicine they gave you can treat.

Hi,,
Try not giving your dog food for a day or two, just water, also if your dog eats house scraps, try giving her anything v.salty. it helps maintain the extra flueds in her vomit & diarrea.

good luck.
