YES
"Although popping a pimple may make it seem less noticeable temporarily, popping can cause it to stay around longer. By squeezing pimples and zits, you can actually push bacteria further into the skin, causing more swelling and redness - and sometimes causing a red or brown mark or scar to form. Sometimes marks can last for many months and true scars (dents and pits) will last forever."

Yes, it can cause scaring, as well as spreading the infection to other parts of the skin. I have an acne treatment that has won me the best answer three times. Each time, the person said it worked great. I'll copy and paste it below.
Use a hot compress on it, and then use cool water to close the pores. Do the process over and over again, about five or six times. Use soap to wash the area, and then treat it with an alcohol soaked cotton ball. It should be gone within five to six hours.

I have always been told not to, but I knew when to pop them (First cleaning the area and my fingers with alcohol). If it is ripe and the pus shows, it's already late to pop them.
You touch them only when you feel there is some pus in them but it doesn't shows yet.
The pressure should be very light, not to damage the surrounding tissue. I f you notice there is some resistance to empty it, don't touch it, and wait until the next try after 6-8 hours.
Thus, your pimple is down before the pus shows.
If you have to clean a big pimple with pus showing in it, you can only try if it's possible with a gentle touch, not forcing it strongly. and then, you soak it with a cotton pad soaked with salty water.

Yep it is.....the germs from your fingers just make the pimples worse. You may not be able to see your pimples after you pop them, but then the germs from your fingers spread, and you can get worse pimples, like blackheads and stuff, in other places. The best way to get rid of pimples is wash your face twice a day, once in the morning and once at night. After you wash your face at night, (OK this sounds really weird but it works!!) brush your face....it sounds weird but it gets the blood flowing under the pimples.....makes them disappear faster. If you're really woried about what you look like, when you wash your face in the morning, after you're done that put on concealer, but make sure you take it off after the day, because if you keep it on it also makes your pimples worse.
P.S., wash your face gently, don't scrub at it!! Cold water in the morning and hot at night. It works :) Also, a normal brush to brush your face is fine....Yes it sounds weird but it really does work!!!

Yes, and who of us can resist doing that. When we squeeze them, it damages the cells underneath and the yukky stuff spreads. Additionally, bacteria from our fingers only makes it worse. A good cleansing once or twice a day, then patting on Witch Hazel is the best way to treat zits.
