I started breaking out recently, I'm 26 and never suffered with acne before. Proactiv sucks, all it does is dry my skin out. I started using St. Ives blackhead scrub and the neutrogena blackhead foaming pads, and they seem to be working (knock on wood). I've heard that sulfur is good also. I'd appreciate your opinion or advice.

Please answer only if you really know what you're talking about or if you've experienced it before.

yes, sulfur is wonderful if you are breaking out. it is oil-absorbing and blemish drying. i use a zinc and sulfur mask and i have very oily skin. i use it as a spot treatment as well at bed time. it also helps heal insect bites. if you are using it and it is drying you out, try using a oil-free moisturizer afterward to soothe.

Is Sulfur Good For Acne

My best experience has been with tea tree oil.
I've never had much problem with acne, but my 16-year-old son, after spending a few months living with his father, came back looking like "Pizza Face".
He was, of course, very unhappy. He had tried several commercial products that all didn't make any real difference.
I bought some tea tree oil from a health food store, and he used it as follows:
In the morning, spread the oil all over the face, then wash off with a clean, warm wash cloth.
Drip 2-3 drops of tea tree oil into palm and add a little warm water.
Gently massage into face.
In the evening, repeat the washing, then spread pure oil on and leave overnight.
Within two weeks, his face had almost completely cleared up (there were maybe 2-3 very little pimples left that disappeared soon thereafter).
He kept washing his face with the tea tree/water mixture, and the pimples didn't come back.
He also doesn't have a single acne scar on his face, and he's now 30.
Tea tree oil is a natural anti-septic and has been used in Australia (where it was discovered) in the treatment of severe wounds.
Avoid soap or any other cleansers. Give it a try. A $10 bottle of oil goes a long way.

I've suffered with acne for awhile now, however, I think treating acne takes time. I got rid of of acne by drinking lots of water and eating very healthy, which was the best remedy by far. Also, washing my face twice daily. ,However, using natural cleansers made my face feel, look healthier, and clearer. Though, having a workout plan also takes a big impact on your skin, ALSO, NEVER TOUCH OR PICK AT YOUR FACE. But, if you absolutely have to, get two q-tips and squeeze the puss out gently. Then, put an ice cube on it so the redness will go away. Also, changing your pillowcases every other night helps too. I hope I helped. :)

I used to work for a dermatologist--- Proactiv does suck, but some of the best will also dry your skin out because that is what they are supposed to do. Pair it with a moisturizer, and you'll be fine. Sulfur products are great. Try Glytone Acne kit for an abrasive yet effective treatment. Any really good, strong product will cause dryness and redness until you get used to it. But Proactiv is not one of them!!! Also, Avene products are made for very sensitive skin. Both of these products can be purchased at a dermatologist's office over the counter.

NATURAL ACNE PROTOCOL
1/ Never, ever touch your face.
2/ Use 3 facecloths to wash your face, one to soap on, one to soap off with very hot water, one to rinse off with ice cold water, in that order, once a day.
3/ If you are under 18 take 5,000 IU of vitamin A once a day with a full meal
4/ If you are over 18 take 5,000 IU of vitamin A twice a day with a full meal.
Do not get pregnant while taking vitamin A. Do not take any more, like Accutane, it will stop you growing.
5/ Never, ever. pick, squeeze or pop your spot. Read number 1 again.
6/ Do this for 90 days.
7/ Invest in a brand new pillow and 2 new or more pillow cases to double bag' your pillow. HOT wash every couple of days.
Source:
A bit of advice given to me as a teenager, a bit of science as I am studying allergic reactions and vitamin A is a part of that. A bit of research: I sat in a lecture at the back and watched the acne prone pick at their faces, those with the worse acne touched their faces 32 times in an hour, the clearest complexions didn't touch their faces even once. I have circumstantial evidence that acne is the result of dermatophyte transfer from hands to face...where it does not get washed off and is well fed by hormones, sweat a
nd oil...just a hypothesis... But it would explain why vitamin A is so effective as vitamin causes skin to remove dermatophytes.

The secret is never to touch the spots

I have not heard of using sulpher on your face... I live on a farm and we use sulpher to keep bugs and parasites away. I would'nt use sulpher if I were you. I suffered with acne and a good friend that's a rep for a pharm. company told me to buy the line Clean N Clear for Blackheads... she told me that anything with Salicylic Acid in it is great for women older than 20years of age. She said after 20 and salicylic acid is best for our changing skin. I'm a witness... The Clean N Clear Oil free Salicylic Acid line WORKS! I hardly have any breakouts now! I never had beautiful skin before but, now I do! Hope this helps!

Who told you that? All I know is that sulfur smells, and I don't think you should ever put sulfur on skin. I've used Neutrogena scrubs and the same pads you used, and that helped me out so if what you used is working, stick with it.
