What is the symbol on tanks?
I've seen tanks with a symbol resembling a "private" rank. An old tank had a diamond shape symbol.

I think that you will mean the tactile symbols that are used at the front of the vehicle , they indicate to witch sort of unit it's belongs and also the weight has a indicator.

There is also a possibility that when the symbol is placed on the turret and certainly on the back of the turret that the symbol will indicated the place of the tank in the company and platoon ex. a triangle = 3 group or platoon and the color indicated the place in the platoon or visa verso
This is a bid the same as the Germans did only they used numbers ex 213 2 company in the division, 1 platoon in the company and 3 tank in the platoon
in the link are some idee's what they look like

I think you mean to say," What does the symbol found on tanks signify?" It is so the army doggies know which way to run when the bullets start flying. It points the way for cowards. "HOOAH! Incompetance leads the way!"
