NOPE. it will never work. Southeast Asia is too culturally and socially diversed that there would be a lot of problems to face before even rplanning and atifying it.
Unlike the European Union, which is in a way share almost the same principles culturally and share the same historical background, can pull a stunt like that.
Corruption in the Southeast Asian governments does not have anything to do with it. In fact, it would / might help eliminate it. As if there is no corruption in Europe? That's bullocks!
But hey, it's too early to judge the EU if it's working really well...we will see in the long run. They are committing too many mistakes already (like accepting new members that are economically challenged for example)...let's see what happens to them before we do the imitation dance. shall we?

It would be beneficial, but the institutional corruption prevalent in many of these countries, coupled with the instability of the political situations in some of the member countries make it tough to implement any sort of long-range policy.
Until the ASEAN members become more stable, I don't see an EU style union ever working.

God no....when you look at all who would be involved, you could see that right off. The Japanese alone contain enough racism to fuel separation for generations, as do the Koreans. I'm not slogging either nationality, but when you consider who the main power brokers would be, financially and militarily, it's doubtful anyone would want to commit. Besides, it's a wonder how the Europeans keep the EU together for as long as they have.

It is definitely possible provided South East Asian politicians have the same vision and courage of the E.U.'s founding fathers...
