Hello. I am looking for a female whippet, preferably young, in the MI area or around it. No show-dogs, just a friendly pooch who's looking for a family. Any names come to mind? (of breeders, not for puppies ;D)

Email Whippet breeder referral through the American Whippet club.

These will be the 'good' breeders. Just because you want a pet doesn't mean you shouldn't get one from a good breeder. They will generally be healthier (through health testing) and will look like they should. I live in Mn and have puppies on the way, but there are breeders in MI.

Check with www.AKC.org for a listing for a puppy from their classified section. Also, you can check with www.puppyfind.com. But be very careful with puppyfind. Some of the listings there are from puppy mills and backyard breeders. The AKC website has a list of questions to ask the breeder before buying a puppy. It is a very good list and definitely be in your best interest to ask lots of questions!

Good luck!

Check your local shelters and petfinder. They usually list the sheters near by. You could also look into breed rescues. IF you decide that you want to go to a breeder, make sure it is a reputable one not a byb (that means NO ads out of the paper and not petstores)

Try puppyfind.com. You can search by state and breed and gender desired.

You can also go to google and see if there is a local whippet rescue that may have some.

Good luck.

maybe you should ring breeders, they might have an older dog or know of someone that has one (all ages), breeders have a network of connections and they might be able to help you out.
