My building only allows dogs that are 15" or less as measured at the shoulder. I am a big dog lover (labs, dobies, etc.) and do not want an ankle biter or a yipper. Can anyone suggest a dog with the traits of a lab that does not exceed the size limitation?

One more thing. I do not have the time or inclination to care for a long-haired dog.

Boston Terrier. They come in three sizes up to 12 lbs, 12-20 lbs, 20-30 lbs. All are less than 15'' in height. My daughter has a chocolate lab and likes my Bostons.

you should offer breed extra interest than length. My boyfriend & I merely were given our first canines, a superb Dane. we stay in a good sized abode, not a huge position by any potential, inspite of the indisputable fact that no backyard. they're a great breed, yet their excersize criteria are some distance lower than say an austrailian shepard or a border collie who extremely might want to benefit from a backyard extra. we've a good number of parks round and considering we haven't any backyard we haven't any excuses now to not excersize her ideal =) I do imagine any canines might want to be at liberty in a smaller position yet you extremely ought to comprehend what the breed needs. A border collie is going to be unfavourable, bored, strengthen behavioral subject matters with a undemanding few walks an afternoon as they extremely desire all kinds of stimulation. even as my great dane will in all likelihood do wonderful with an hours nicely worth of a walk, off leash play time some cases per week and many education and play time interior =) I recommend a huge to great breed canines who's fairly comfortable interior.. inspite of the indisputable fact that because you're prepared to placed forth the excersize, psychological stim and etc this is extremely your decision. ascertain you locate a strong respected breeder who will set you up with the right puppy for you personality sensible, they are going to frequently make the alternative for you!

Mutts generally make the best small to medium sized dogs. They're usually smarter and will pick up what you want them to faster. This isn't always true, however, so you just need to choose wisely. Of course, there is always the Miniature Lab. I had one as a kid and it was a great dog.

check out the size of a miniature doberman pincer. I have not had one but have friends who have and they are great dogs with the big dog mentality that you want.
Basset Hound is short, short haired and more of a big dog temperament, but needs plenty of exercise when they are young.
Corgy is a funny looking dog to me but their owners seem really happy with them as sturdy types.
Basically avoid any terriers since they often are nippy and yippy.

Get a labradoodle. Here is a good link to a breeder where I am currently awaiting for my new labradoodle puppy to be ready! They dont shed, hypoalergenic, only get 55-70 pounds, and are very well tempered!! Only for about 400$
