No onions
no rasins or grapes.
Most other veggies are ok in small quantities if the dog likes them.
No bones of cooked meats. Bones of raw meats are ok but be careful some dogs crush them and swallow pieces of bone that can cause problems.
Fruit is ok if they like it.
Mine like most fruit and almost all veggies. Broccoli and carrots are a favorite around here.

Within reason dogs of any breed/mix can eat any meats. They can also eat carrots, green beans, sweet potato, squash, pumpkin, eggs, yogurt, cheese, cottage cheese, peas, tomato, apples, pears, strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, cranberries, watermelon, cantalope, rice,, etc

Many people feed raw diets or homecooked as opposed to comercial foods..In an ideal world all dogs would be fed raw or homecooked.Raw or undercooked foods won't cause illness in a dog. The dog is designed to eat raw meats.
Thankfully more and more vets are getting educated about feeding and nutrition and are realizing that grain laden foods aren't healthy for dogs and that "people foods" are perfectly acceptable to feed dogs. Actually properly balanced "people foods" are healthier to feed a dog then most commercial foods.Foods like Pedigree, Alpo, Science Diet, IAMS/Eukanuba,Purina Dog Chow and other "supermarket" foods are not quality foods and really aren't that healthy for dogs. They are laden with grains/cheap fillers, preservatives, dyes and don't take into consideration that dogs are designed to be meat eaters, to process nutrition from meat sources not grains.

Dogs are better off being fed a good dog food and not people food. I know how hard it is not to feed our fur kids scraps, but it can cause lots of problems for the dog. Definitely do not give any dog onions, celery, green peppers, grapes and stuff like that. However, other fruits and vegetables are okay, like carrotts, tomatotes, apples, bananas. If you give them meat, make sure it is not too fatty.

We only feed our dog Hills Science Diet and have since she was a puppy ... she is now 11 years old.

as with all dogs.... bad human foods include CHOCOLATE!!!!! its toxic to dogs. chicken bones, pork bones.. both splinter. the safest bones are big beef and ham bones. The best thing to do is NOT feed your dog human food at all!!!! they don't get the right nutrition from our food.. its why they have their own :). My dogs are both chow mix, and LOVE the large meal bones (only available at Petsmart). They are expensive so they only get one a day, in conjuction with their regular food. I suggest IAMS or some other slightly more expensive dog food as it produces less waste .....(the kind you have to clean up from your yard) then generic brands. I switched my dogs from generic to Iams and the meal bones and we clean up alot less....poo.... in our yards.
If you are going to feed your dog human food... talk to your vet about what is best.. I know with cats they suggest raw meat... I don't know why. My dogs eat anything they can get their noses into.. I will tell you that peanut butter, eggs, brocolli, cabbage, and some flavors of canned cat food give my dogs really bad gas. Hope this helps

Of course Chocolate can cause increased heart rate, tremors, excitation, depending on the type and the quantity ingested I don't like to give my german shepherd chicken bones on fear that he might choke becaue they are so small and splinter easily.
Onions can also be harmful to dogs
Some types of grapes and raisins have been shown to cause kidney failure in dogs when eaten in quantity
Ingestion of rising bread dough can be life threatening to dogs.
Macadamia nuts can cause muscular weakness and tremors in dogs.
Excessively rich or fatty foods can trigger pancreatitis
My Shephard loves cheese but dogs lack the enzyme required to digest lactose so they don't digest it well, and I try to keep it to a very select amount.
Tomatoes - can cause tremors and heart arrhythmias in your dog

Dogs and cats actually require very different diets to be healthy. Cat food just doesn't have the right balance of proteins, carbs, and fats and it offers non-ideal amounts of important vitamins and minerals. Eating it from time to time might cause indigestion, but nothing long term. It definitely shouldn't be a daily thing or his main source of food, however.

You know what? If you actually knew what goes into pet food you wouldn't even allow it into your house. Of course with the steroids, human growth hormones, antibiotics, metals, genetically modified food and mad cow disease to name a few in the human food chain we aren't much better off. Still, I would feed my pet the least amount of pet food I could and supplement heavily with whatever I ate.
