Cable was supposed to hook up 3 boxes in my house, which they knew before they sent the "cable guy," and when the man came yesterday, he informed us that one of the 3 boxes he brought was broken, hooked up two of them, and told us the 3rd could come another time. Now they insist I pay a service charge for delivery and installation, when to come into the house in the first place it is $9.99 to install any amount of boxes. They got their $9.99 for the installation of the 2 boxes yesterday, but they say they will not come and install the 3rd unless we pay 20 something dollars. Can I insist they come free of charge? It was their mistake for sending a broken box in the first place, but they are being really stubborn, and I bet they do this purposely. Is there anything I can do about it?

Do you have the receipt the cable guy left you? It should state that 1 box was bad, right?

1. Call them back and ask for a customer service supervisor. Explain to him/her and tell them your 9.99 was for installation of 3 boxes. It is not your fault they sent out a bad box.

If you get no satisfaction, ask for the mailing address so that you can send them a registered letter complaining and requesting your 3rd box be installed. If that doesn't get you satisfaction, then mail them a letter certified, return receipt. Also inform the cable supervisor that you are going to lodge an official complaint with the city and the state attorney general's office for "consumer fraud", and ask for his/her full name and employee or badge number.

If that doesn't get you satisfaction, live with 2 boxes or pay the 9.99

I am sure you can fight this. If they don't budge, why don't you go to your local cable office and pick up the cable box and install it yourself? All you do is connect it to the coax and TV and you are all set. There is no magic or complex wiring involved.

That is what I did and saved myself installation cost and time off from work to meet the cable guy.
