Im getting hardwood floors in my bedroom instead of carpet. is this a good or bad idea? i love the feel of carpet but with 2 pets and my messy habbits i get so many stains in it. wood is pretty, cool at night (which i like), and easy to clean but carpet is soft, warm during the day, and more fit for the bedroom. i already paid for the wood. was that a bad idea?

Hardwood floors add a touch of elegance to any room. You did not say if your pets were cats or dogs. If you have dogs, they will scratch the floor with there nails, so keep them trimmed. Cats are okay. Also, if your bedroom is above another living area of your house, any noise or footsteps will be easily heard from the bedroom. You could solve some of the noise transmission through the floor by using area rugs. If you spill anything on wood floors, be sure to wipe it up right away. If the liquid gets in between the joints of the flooring, it could cause the wood to expand and then you wood have a hump or a bow in the floor.

Good idea!! I recently ripped up the carpet in my bedorom so I could have the hardwood floors for the same reason(2 pets). I put down a area rug in the places where my bare feet would hit the floor and it works great.

I am currently remodeling a home and putting hardwood through out the entire house except for the bedrooms. I wanted hardwood in the bedrooms but my husband's feet get cold. I would have loved to put hardwood and used a large oriental under the bed and a runner etc. I think it will be beautiful.

Carpet is better for allergies than hard surface floors, fact. Google the school in Sweden that had a study done. Carpet is a big filter, it traps allergens. You have to clean the filter. Vacuum every day, have the carpets professionally cleaned at least once every 18 months. Hard surface flooring just allows all of that dust, pollen and other allergens to float around in the air and settle on other surfaces. I'd type out more info, but you can find this easily online yourself.

I think it sounds great. I was just contemplating the same idea for my own bedroom. ( the carpet needs replacing).

You can put a nice big fluffy carpet at the side of your bed to step on when you get in and out. And you can change the color easier than if you have wall to wall!

No it was not a bad idea, it was a smart idea. Carpets and their pads are made up of many chemicals and catch who knows what. Your wooden floor will be fresh, clean and much better for your health. Good for you!

It's a good idea, and it will be easy to clean. And you can get some little area mats to decorate with and protect your feet from the floor in the morning.

Hardwood floors hand down no question about it. Especially with two pets and or kids. AND DEFINITELY IF YOU ARE TRACKING IN AND OUT ALL THE TIME!

good idea! if the floors are too cold in the winter put down runners or area rugs. and if you change the decor you can buy new rugs! also, hardwood better for sleeping/allergies, as you keep the dust and dander down. good luck!

I used to have hard wood in my bedroom. I bought a big area rug and used it when I got sick of the hard wood. Then took it up when I was sick of the rug. Got the best of both worlds.
