I got an email stating that this substance is cancerous and cause hair loss, cancer.. Also used to clean the grease in garages, is the ingredient they use to make shampoos foamy. Is all this true??

It is a foaming agent and is even in some toothpaste.

It is NOT harmful. That email is a hoax.

The only thing I know about it, is that a certain number of people are allergic to it. You can buy shampoos without Laureth sulfate in them... just check the more organic types in your local supermarket, they should have at least one type without it. I use one from time to time. As for it being dangerous, I'm pretty sure if you arent injesting it, you should be fine.
