Don't decline the offer based on a fear of people 'seeing through you'. Don't forget that you are dealing with a gullible segment of society. Until recently, literally thousands of Atheist pedophiles have been able to, not only pass themselves off as legitimate god-fearing Catholic priests, but practice their deviate behavior with impunity. Bottom line - A person living a lie, within the context of a premise that is a lie, is not even hypocritical.

Personally I think you should go back to the minister and let him know that you'd like the job because of the money, but that you want him to know before he hires you that you aren't Christian.
Perhaps God's purpose in having the minister offer you the job was to help in the ministers own education and understanding. Delicately letting him know that he made a mistake in judgment may be the eye opener he needs to make better decisions in another area.
I think it’s great that you read and can understand some of the Bible, but you should know that some things won’t make any sense to you without seeing them through the eyes of the Holy Spirit and for this reason the minister should not let you speak as an expert on Bible verse.
God Bless!

A few points.
1. In answer to your question, no! Not until you tell your minister what your motives are and that you are not Christian.
2. Ever had a teacher who taught but his/her heart was just not in it? I think you would agree that s/he was quite boring to listen to. When you work, work with your whole heart; that's the only way you'll be good at it.
3. Does your wife know? If not, she has the right to.
4. I find it quite interesting that many atheists are saying "yes" when they always complain about hypocrisy in the church.

Don't do it for the money. My father is a minister, and let's just say he's not exactly in it for the money. We have plenty to get by on, but we are NOT filthy rich. Also, even if you are knowledgeable about religion, you are not religious yourself. You may do all right the first couple years, but after that you will either begin to truly believe or be exposed as a fraud.

it is amazing to me that a true minister of Jesus Christ would say that knowledge is what it takes to "work" at a church. Paul said to the Corinthians, that he came with humility and not with eloquence of speech or superior wisdom. You may be fooling yourself and the congregation and even the minister of Christ, but you will not be fooling Christ. Teachers will be judged by God- So you want to do something that isn't honest. You answered your own question.

Lots of preachers are phony so you'll be in good company. Ted Haggard, Jimmy Swaggert, Jim & Tammy Baker, Benny Hinn, come to mind but the list is endless. A church is a business, people come to be entertained. If you can provide that entertainment and if somebody is willing to pay you for it--why not?

well, most people who become ministers feel the call from the higher power. my father is one, and i have a son who is one. money is nice. but so is honesty.. could you sleep at night? when you spoke of god, knowing in your heart what you really feel? ministers and their families are treated differently. you half to believe it, feel it, and know it. it must be something you can be comfortable with. like the bible says, as a man thinkith so is he. with lots of prayer, and consideration, not counting the dollar signs, you might could learn to live your life, and take your knowledge to council people to turn them in the right directions. no one should half to live a lie for money. god help you if you do.

The paltry sum that you would make probably wouldn't ease your conscience of pretending to be something you're really not. On the other hand, perhaps by working within the church you may become a believer.

I think you must have a bad minister because a good one would see right through you. Its funny that you would take a minister's job for money. Most good ministers don't make a lot of money.
