I DON'T have a dog yet, but I'm getting either a puppy German Shepherd, Siberian Husky, Labrador Retriever, or Golden Retriever. How often do I take HIM to the vet, brush him, and walk him every day, if he'll live outside? what food do you recommend?

I can't really help you with the other 3 breeds, but can give you an idea with a Husky as I have a 19 week old. She needs brushed at least every other day (we usually do it everyday though). She just got done getting all of her shots, but while she needs shots its every 3-4 weeks at the vet, now it should just be at least once a year, or if she gets sick or hurt. Walks are a mandatory everyday, and I don't mean 15 minutes. We do a minimum of 2 miles and she can still go more if I wasn't tired. Dogs should not be outside ALL the time, especially not a Husky, it should be an indoor pet but have some time to romp and play in the yard. Huskies need to be supervised outside because they love to dig and are real escape artitsts if they are left alone. I also recommend going to your local animal shelter or humane society and trying to get your dog from there. They have great dogs there and you can even find purebreds that really need a home. You really should do some research into the breeds of dogs your looking at, because they all have different needs. The internet is a great place to get started but you should also go to the library and check out some books to get you going. Good Luck!

Dogs especially golden retriever brush him once a day, walk him once a day. Foods that i recommended for these 4 dogs are dry liver or beef, mostly source from protein will be good. Not too much vege if you are a vegetarian. While German Shepherd and Siberian brush him once for 2 days. And labrador retriever doesnt need that much brush. But walk this 4 types of dogs once per day. You can take him to the vet at least once for 3 months.

Brush daily
Feed three or four time per day when young and then twice per day when full grown.
Walk daily every day
Vet every four weks up unitl 16 weeks then at least once per year for booster shots and a check up.
If you are getting a dog as a pet you should not make it live outside. You would not make your children live outside or a family member live outside. A pet is going to be a member of your family. Do not force it to live outside. Dogs need human interaction and companionship to be happy and healthy.
Also you are looking at some very differnent personality type of breeds. You should do some research and find out if you are active enough and have the space and can live with the shedding of a Husky. These are very active dogs who require huge amounts of time and exercise, a walk per day is not going to come close to doing it for them. Where as the Lab or Gloden are going to be more laid back and more willing to please the owner they will train easier and are better family dogs.
Make sure you look into the personailities of each of these breeds.

It depends on the breed you are getting. A working wog needs a lot of activity. Walking is a must for any dog. I had a doberman and contrary to what people say about doberman dogs she was the most gentle soul you can ever find. All pure breed dogs have heath problems and it becomes a regular trip to the vet. At least once a month bath, nail trimming, shots, teeth cleaning, proper diet all that gets expensive. Having a dog is a lot of fun but a lot of responsibilities go with it. If you are not very serious about it then my advice is that you don't buy a dog.

You need to read through a lot of puppy books before you get one. Are you REALLY ready to the sacrifices you are going to have to make for this Puppy? Puppies require 10 times more effort than an adult dog

Your dog is not meant to live outside. You not get a dog if you intend to keep it outside.
