You could say that.
Numbers are important in the Bible.
Numbers like 12 for the tribes of Israel, or the apostles.
Or 40, for the forty days and nights it rained during the flood, or the 40 years the Israelites wandered in the desert.

No. Look in the Book of Revelation and you find the 12 tribes and the 12 apostles have key roles in the age to come.

The 12 Apostles and 12 Tribes have nothing to do with each other, except that maybe God likes #12.

Yes. In the Book of Revelation it speaks of the New Jerusalem descending out of heaven with twelve foundations in the names of the tribes, and with twelve gates, one for each Apostle. I think you could look at the Apostles as a metaphor for the "New Israel."

Hi,
No they are not a Representative of each other, as a few others have stated the bible does have special numbers and meaning which I am sure you know and are ask this to get others thinking or generate other questions.
Adrian Rodgers did a great sermon(making Numbers Count) covering biblical numerology the key numbers and their meaning you can listen to it free online, the sermon notes are $ 4.00 I wish I would have bought them.

both metaphoric and literal... there were 12 disciples because there were 12 tribes of Isreal. They were real, as are the 12 tribes.

Maybe. Or twelve is a special number? Unfortunately, we can speculate all we want, but our source doesn't tell about Jesus' reasons for picking 12 and only 12.
