Take her out to a place like a field and practice getting her to come back to you. She is just following all the wonderful smells out there. You need to practice every day calling her to come to you, first starting inside the house and praise her when she comes to you, even if she just comes in your direction. Work with her every day to come to you.

I would suggest that you just keep her on a leash to be safe. Because she is a beagle mix she has a very Strong sense of smell, so it is easy for her to get caught up in what she is sniffing and follow it. This can get her into some trouble, she could get lost, or wander in front of a car and get hit. I am always extra cautious when it comes to my animals, so i feel that is it best to just keep her on a leash when you are not in a confined or fenced in area.

may i reccomend that you never ever try to walk a dog without a leash . most counties in the united states have what is called a leash law and you can get fined for not having your dog on a leash. good luck and god bless.

First of all I hope when your walking her off leash she's in a fenced in area because there is such a thing as a leash law. If she will come when called and knows how to heal she'll be fine.

You can try your dog off leash only once she's completed a set of obedience classes and has been 100% reliable off leash during classes. Beagles are scent hounds, they follow their nose and if she's on the trail of something, she will not hear you calling her.

i live i ottawa and i when i go to the dog park everyone has there dog loose its a good way to see if your dog is able to handle walking with out a leash because its all fenced in even though its pretty large its still doog practice fro your dog but i guesse it depends on how your dog is around other dogs thats also a thing you could look at if you go to one

Just test her at home. Train her to come to you when you call her. Then walk her at a steady pace without the leash. If she even starts to stop, call her, and maybe give her a treat as a reward.

the dog should remain at your side no matter what.....no sniffing stuff. It is still independent. It should ignore other dogs too.
Later progress the leash down to strong (butchers)string to lighter string.
It must come immediately when you call, if there is hesitation, there is independence.
