A flint box is just a little box that holds a small piece of steel, (usually about an inch wide, and as long as your finger) with a small hole on one side. There is a string tied through the hole and attached to the other end of the string is a piece of flint. It is just a convient way of keeping your flint and steel together so you dont lose one.

A flint box is a box with a piece of flint rock and a piece of metal in it. You rub the flint against the metal to make sparks so you can light a fire.

It gives off a spark to ignite kindling and make a fire. It doesn't need fuel and it doesn't burn.
