How may died per month in WW2?
8,200 on average.
50 on average in Iraq. One life lost sucks big time. But is often necessary. What would have happened if we had 24/7 media coverage on Bloody Omaha Beach? Would the USA have lost their will?

I couldn't agree with you more. Consider that over 250,000 Americans were killed in WWII. In just short of 4 years. We are now in a war which we have been in for over 3 years and have lost 3,000. Now as you said, any loss of life is an unfortunate outcome, however, war is not a pretty thing.

If we had that media coverage in the days of WWII the Americans probably would have lost there will until they found out what Hitler was really up to with the concentration and death camps. I think then the resolve and determination would have been heightened. Thanks for an intelligent question and have a nice day.

Hmm, here every able bodied man was sent to fight during ww2, and rest of the population did their share of work in the war effort.

I do not suppose it needs to be covered if one is in the middle of it. Otherwise it becomes a war of the elitist that doesn't really touch the common person, and it is not always clear why one should support soldiers in a far off land.

Yes. Americans suffer from ADD. Americans think war should last only as long as the football season and end in a Superbowl. If it lasts longer or requires some effort they want to pick up their toys and go home. That is why we have not won a war since 1945.

Sadly.. yes. If there were 24/7 news coverage during the Normandy Invasion it would have been deemed a failure. And the talking heads would have been out there protesting that Germany didn't bomb Pearl harbor.

You can go back as far as George Washington to find warnings about a democracy getting involved in a long war. I think it was Washington himself who talked about it and the frame of reference was the long wars that had been going on in Europe.

I believe a lot of the frustration is not so much in the casualty rate as the perception of a lack of progress along with that casualty tate.
