My kitten is 6 months and my cat is 17 months. We also need 2 kinds of litter and our carpet in our house feels a little like cat litter I guess...

Some cats like one place to pee and another to poop. Some cats won't share their place with another cat. My two will share and will pee and poop in the same box but their box is huge, actually, it's a morter mix pan, cheap useful etc. It,s cleaned every day, washed out once a week, and totally replaced twice a year. Is it really too much to ask? How do you feel about your bathroom?

My kitten was great about every thing except sometimes doing his thing on papers instead of the litter box. It turned out he'd originally been trained to go on papers. I made sure no paper of any kind was left out, and he's never missed his litter box since. Cats will often refuse to share a litter box or use a dirty one. I use a scooper every other day and change it when I can smell urine. There are two boxes kept separated from each other.

All of my cats (I have 3) have their own litter box because they're all indoor cats. Do you like going to the bathroom right after someone has taken a good 20 minute.... Probably not, so you can imagine why cats don't particularly like crawling into a box full of another cats feces. Keep the boxes clean, and they won't go on the floor.

Some cats WANT more than one box. My vet always recommends 1 box for every cat in the house. It is also helpful to use two different types of litter so they have diffferent textures.

It may be that they either don't like to share a box, or you need to keep them cleaner ^^;; Same thing with my cats. My kittens wouldn't share with the older cat.

Have two litter boxes. What's the big deal?
