After fainting once at the doctors office and having a big fuss made over it, I always ask to lie down when I need to have blood drawn.

There are a lot of people who feel faint at having blood drawn. It's perfectly OK to ask to lie down for this procedure. Tell the person drawing the blood that you always feel like you're going to faint. It has nothing to do with the amount of blood being drawn though.

Some people feel faint at the sight of blood - even someone else's blood. Yes, it is all psychological, and I'm sure there are tricks out there for conditioning yourself to be ok with the sight of blood.
