Beagles are a noble breed, used to hunt foxes in England. They are small and are able to get into fox holes. They are bred to howl when prey is found, it is distinctive similar to a blood hound. This is normal and he/she is probably showing affection. I have two myself and they are wonderful dogs.

Yeah Beagles are suppose to do that...they are a type of hound dog used to chase vermin. When the had the scent the would "Howl". So it is completly normal...infact i never yet seen a beagle that "Barks" without an ending howl

Beagles howl ALOT! They are originally a hunting dog...and it's their way of communicating. They rarely bark--just howl. I'm a former beagle owner.

Yeah!!! It is perfectly normal!!! My friend has a beagle and her beagle is named Howl!!! Howl will be in her bed and then Addy will come by her and Addy says hey Howl!!! and Howl starts howling! hence the name howl! Then Howl will get up and play!!!! Beagles don't bark as much as they howl. in fact i have never heard Howl bark before!!!

Yes it`s one of their traits. They`re lovely dogs but another of their traits is to roll in cow manure and destroy garbage bags.
