The above will work for other icons, but not for system icons.

In your case, Right Click anywhere on the desktop (not on any icon) and select PROPERTIES. Click on DESKTOP tab, then click on the CUSTOMIZE DESKTOP button on the bottom.

You will see a bunch of SYSTEM icons like MY DOCUMENTS RECYCLE BIN and also MY COMPUTER.

Select MY COMPUTER and click RESTORE DEFAULT or click CHANGE ICON and look for it.

If you are talking about the small short cut one that most people put on their desktop, just delete the one you have. Go to My Computer in your Main Menu and right click on that. You will get a drop down menu with Show on desktop or something like that. Make sure it is checked and then you may have to re-start your computer but it should put a new icon on the desktop.

Hi Dinor,

There are two ways to handle this.

*Recreate the My Comptuer icon, by going to Start, right-click My Computer (show on desktop)
* Right-click My Computer on your desktop, properties, Change My Icon.
