I would get something small, since it's a first time thing, like a chinese simble or a flower. you could defnitely get something that has meaning to it, like if you are married, get a simple meaning unity or if you recently lost someone get one meaning love lost or something. I think tatoos look great on the foot, like on the side underneath you two smaller toes. Because, when your older and if you don't want to show it off, your foot won't be exposed all that often and it's an easy place to disguise with makeup (not saying that you want to, but if you ever do). I like it above the butt, even thought they call it a tramp stamp, because i think it's sexy and also when your older (again), it isn't an area that will be exposed very often at all. I think it's cute on the inside of the wrist or ankle, but that is pretty risky (especially wrist) because if you ever want to hide it, it becomes very difficult to do so. I would take time to choose something that's meaningful to you. Great if you can design something and then have a tattoo artist create it for you. Took me a year to design mine...
In terms of the placement of your ink....depends on how much of it you want visible and so forth. Wrists, feet, stomach and along the spine are considered one of the more painful spots because of thin skin, bones or lots of nerves. I am getting my first in about 3 weeks....mine is going to be about 4" long and about 1-1.5 inches wide....getting it on my lower back on the side. Visible if I decide to show it but also not if I don't show it...
Remember when actually looking into it to look for parlors that are sterile and clean. Visit several in your areas and look at their artwork and speak with the artist if possible...that will let u know if it's a place for you or not.
Also - remember....good tattoos are not cheap.

A tattoo needs to reflect your personality because it will be with you FOREVER. Choose something that is meaningful to you. Popular female tattoos seem to be things like hearts, butterflies, flowers, etc. I think two good places for women to get tattoos are on the outside of their ankle or on their lower back near the buttocks. Both are feminine places and not very obtrusive in case you don't like it later on in life.

If you are not sure what you want.. dont get one! Spur of the moment tattoos are the ones people live to regret. take your time and think about soemthing that means something to you. NOT one some lame-o on the internet tells you they think might look cute. none of us know you or your personality. but if you really must .. get one small and somewhere easy to hide.. like your back or butt LOL that way if you regret it very few will even know its there

My first tattoo I got was on my ankle. But as for a good idea for your first tattoo that should be up to you. Something that means something to you. Could be something you like such as a certain bird, or if your into flowers, tribal art its all up to you. Remember this will be on your skin for life. Good Luck.

Whatever you like best, my first tattoo was a small dolphin on my left shoulder, then I went on to have an octopus on my right shoulder. since then my husband has learned to tattoo and he has given me a small nemo on my hip and a snake next to my dolphin. I like to have my tattoos where I choose whether to show them or not. I would never have them on my arms or ankles.

Never get anyone's name on a tattoo !! It doesn't look good if they had an affair and you had their name on your back!! I would go for a cute heart on your wrist or anckle!! It looks nice !!
