The most pain you will feel is just a prick. I have had one and I have never felt the blood coming out. Just breathe and relax. It will be over soon. :)

It hurts as much as getting a shot does. Less actually because I've had shots where my arm ached for a day.

However, even a burly 6 foot tall 220 pound 40 year old man like myself gets faint at the thought of blood coming out of my body. I have to lay down during the process and for a few minutes after. Let them know if you feel sweaty or your vision starts blacking out.

It goes so quickly and it's like a pinch and before you know it it's finished. You won't feel the blood come out. Let the lab tech know your nervous and it's your first time that way she will know how to prepare you for it. I also find it helps to strike up a conversation even if it's just the weather and boom it's finished and you'll be surprised at how quickly it's all over. Good luck.

You may feel a slight stinging for a brief moment when the needle is inserted. After that, you hardly feel anything. There's nothing to it. If they miss the vein, then it'll hurt a bit more. Make sure you have visible veins. Nurses love that.

The poke is equivalent to a BIG mosquito bite and, no, you will not feel the extraction of the blood. You can ask the phlebotomist for a medication that can be applied to the skin to numb the area first.
