Canon does make excellent cameas, and they could very well make the most cameras in the $200 to $400 range. Other excellent brands out there are Nikon, Sony and olympus. I own aSony Cyber-shot and love it. Has 6 MP at 12X optical. Fugi also makes some very good ones. So don't be hasty, look around. Canon does not cover the whole spectrum.

I like Sony Cybershot cameras they have a little of each quality. They also have a great picture quality. Hope this helps.
