I bought this book of patron saints and I really like it so I bought one for my friend, but then I remembered that she's Methodist, and I'm not sure if she even believes in saints....and I don't really wanna ask her because I'm afraid I'll give away the gift...

I really think it depends on the person. I’m a United Methodist and I’m sure if my Catholic mother-in-law sent me a book about the saints I’d read it.

Can't speak for other churches but at mine people seem to be pretty open minded.

TO the direct questions yes you can believe in the Saints. In the Methodist tradition we believe that all Christians who have died are Saints, so yes we believe in the Saints, there is just not a set list like the Catholic Church. TO the details of praying. You can certainly do whatever you like. I would not say that you should pray to the Saints, but I think praying WITH a saint, like using an icon, shouldn't be a problem. It is not a common practice in the United Methodist Church, but as far as I know there is nothing in the discipline about it. The best thing to do is talk with your pastor he/she could spend more time on the issue with you.

I expect most Methodists believe in saints ... such as Saint Matthew, Saint Mark, Saint Luke, Saint John, Saint Paul, etc. Biblical (saints). And, of course, some of the early saints of the Church. Also the concept that "saints" are "sinners, saved by grace". Probably they are not all that high on the concept of the Roman Catholic church canonizing people as saints.

But if the book is sort of general information about saints, exemplary lives, etc. likely it could be for a "good read" and general information.

Hmmm. I now choose to be non denominational christian, but, I was raised methodist. Sure, we believe in saints, but we don't worship them or have statues of them. A saint as stated above was someone who believed in and followed Christ, more commonly, a saint is someone like a martyr, who died for Christ in their own beliefs. Any christian person I think would enjoy a book like that. I always think it's interesting to read on different denominations, and to learn about Christs followers!

Being a Methodist means you are part of the Roman Catholic Church. They pray to saints. But you are not to pray to the saints or mary or even jesus. Only pray to God Almighty only. The Bible says to have only one God and He is in Heaven.

according to Paul all who know Jesus are saints the term was used for all Christians. the catholic church really has no right to declair any one a saint. generally I would say Protestants including Methodists do not see saints in the same light as catholics. certainly we would not pray to them or see them as holy. Jesus said only God is holy.

It depends on the definition of Saint.
They do not believe in them like the catholics do and appoint priest as saints or Patron saints. What they do believe in, is the saints of God, men of god who have done great things like Apostle Paul, or DL Moody, you will hear them referred to as the saints of God or the saints of ol. You will also hear of believers who have past on to be called the saints of God.
All that to say that protestants don't elevate or vote in people as saints like the Catholic church does it's a generalized term.
Still if you really like the book you can give it and tell her that you found some of the stories of these folks interesting. Thomas Aquinas, I learned of in school and bought a book on him.
