The danger temperature zone is a range between 40°F and 140°F. Raw chicken can be stored in a refrigerator for several days. If it is not going to be used within the recommended time, it should be frozen to prevent it from perishing. Leftover cooked chicken should be wrapped tightly and refrigerated as soon as possible. Do not leave the chicken at room temperature for more than two hours. If cooked chicken is not going to be used within four days of cooking, it should be frozen.

Was it in the fridge or on the counter? Fridge okay, counter, throw it out! Four hours is tops for any type of food that either needs to be kept hot or cold. Bacteria reproduce every 20 minutes, so you can imagine what could happen in 8 hours! Food poisoning is nothing to mess around with!

There was a time that I'd say, you could cook it anyway and the heat would 'kill' whatever was trying to insist on living, but nowadays - it's so hard to know when and how fast salmonella and other bacteria grow. You should always defrost in the 'frig and if it's still not thawed when you get home - take it to the microwave or slow cook it. I hate you have to throw away good food - but better safe....than dead.

chicken is VERY risky, throw it out! Next time, let it thaw in the fridge for two days in a bowl or pan.

if the chicken was left out unrefrigerated for more than four hours, it is a health hazzard and you must throw it out.
in the future, I suggest that you thaw things in the fridge or microwave them.

If you eat it y ou are risking salmonella poisoning.
Food, especially meat, has to be either kept hot or cold. Anything in between allows bacteria to grow on it.
