The table has rust, black, and gray slate tiles on top. I thought black and brown/rust did not match together. However, the designer of the table thinks it does. The table is a contemporary casual piece.

Sure, I think that would look great. Remember, that the most contemporary looks are not an exact match, but the fact that the table does have some rust coloring sounds like it would work out perfectly!

just get couple litte pillows to match the grey contemporary casual piece. then it all fits also if you can angle your furntiure it won't just (hit you in the face feeling ) when you walk in the room
Or if your liveing room is big don't feel afraid to place the couch in the middle of the room faceing a focal point like a fireplace which will also break up the differance.
Hope this helps Diane

Sounds nice, Sally.

Black absorbs all color, so you can use it as an accent anywhere.

Styling might be the only consideration. If it's victorian in a contemporary room.. It may not look quite at home..

It sounds pretty. Rust and black look great together.

But--if YOU don't like it, don't let anyone (including me) talk you into having it in your house.

Absolutely does go together but if you don't like the way it looks, then try something else.
