honey, the first child of bathsheba was a playboy. he swung with the ungodly women of Egypt.
The part about the offsrping being punished didnt matter. Solomon was good and God rewarded him until he started mingling with Egyptian women. Read it.

Just as Sawyer, above, mentioned, oftentimes, children (and the family) suffer for what parents do. There is no reason to suggest that God punished the child. The Bible is silent on a few things here - including the health of the child just before and after birth. It could be that the baby was suffering from something from which it would have died anyway.
It is true that the account at 2 Samuel says that the child would positively die; it is also true that according to 2 Samuel 12:15, God dealt the child a blow. This does not automatically mean that God is directly responsible for the death of the child. Sometimes in scripture, God is spoken of as doing a thing, when in fact, he simply allowed it to happen. (Compare, for example, the Exodus accounts where God is spoken of as hardening the heart of Pharaoh when, in fact, he allowed Pharaoh to harden his own heart.)
We must remember that had God allowed the case to be handled by human judges according to the law covenant he himself put into place, both David and Bathsheba would have been stoned to death. And of course the child would have died too, being in the womb of its mother.
Some people do feel that because children are children they are automatically innocent. In truth, the scriptures do not teach such. It was David himself who said, under inspiration in Psalms, that we are conceived in sin. Every single human inherits the sinful inclination that is ultimately traced to Adam - no matter that human's age.
In the final analysis, we can be sure that God's way of dealing with it was the just way.

The child wasn't punished. He went on to be with God in Heaven because he had not yet reached the age of accountability. David & Bathsheba were the ones punished. As a parent myself I can't think of a more horrible loss than that of a child. It would be a lifetime of pain and in the case of David, I'm sure, regret.
David knew what he did was wrong before he did it. It was pre-meditated as was the murder of Bathsheba's husband. Here's what the Bible says about that:
Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

The reason that David and Bathsheba's first born son died was in punishment to their sin. David wasn't punished directly because he repented of his sin. However God still had to deal with it.

Whether you believe in God or not, I don’t see how anybody can deny that the sins of the parents ARE visited upon the children. Children do suffer because of their parents’ bad choices. This is not God’s doing, but the child is going to be scarred by the parents’ lifestyle. Ask anybody who grew up with an alcoholic or drug dependant parent, or who was the victim of incest.

In traditional Christian thinking, a child is also responsible for the sins of the parents. This can be seen in original see...we all are supposedly punished for Adam & Eve's original sin. All of the first born of Egypt were killed by the hand of God for the sins of Pharaoh.

HOW Many Innocent Children suffer from AIDS, and Alcoholism and Drug Addiction, DUE TO THEIR PARENTS?
Children are not protected from THE SINS of their parents!
IF the child did not die, Would GOD have got David's Attention?
GOD is in control, how do YOU even question HIM?
Thanks, RR

according to Christianity, the son must attone for the sins of the father, which is why humans today are still living in a hell on earth and not an earthly paradise. Adam and eve sinned and their children (us) must pay for it. if you believe christianity, which i do not because i am wiccan, a witch by blood and practice. however i was raised in a christian home and have a deeper and more thorough understanding of the christian bible and i can analyze it better when i dont put blind faith in everything that it says.

Look at what you believe as reality. This is an example of fairytales gone wild. This is sad to think people believe in such rubbish and use it as a guide to how life is to be. Religion needs to be abandoned but there are too many sheep that are easily led. It may be believed that a god gave free will but he took away the brain to exercise it.

God did not think so; not in Exodus, at least:
Passage Exodus 20:5:
5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,
