Rap music in itself is not bad but too many popular rap artists use language and discussions about topics that are not appropriate for children. Try to find some artists that have positive messages and don't use word that you wouldn't want your children to say themselves.

YES! Would you allow your child to watch two adults have sex or watch someone be shot at or murdered? Of course not, I hope. Rap only puts negative thoughts into such a young mind. At such a young age the child probably does not realize they are just words and will soon want to do what he or she hears. Be careful, it is when they are young that children learn and absorb the most information.

Rap is bad for a person no matter what age.
Depending on the age of the child; stick to music from the Disney channel or other 'kid' related channels.

I personally don't think so. That is unless there is a significant amount of cursing and sexual innuendo. Nowadays, it isn't even innuendo, it is graphic and in your face. I listen to some clean rap and clean R&B. When I'm in the car with my kids I listen to Disney radio on XM (Channel 115). You have to use your own judgement. Some rap has a good message and is not "dirty", while others are off the charts. You are always safer letting them listen to books on tape in the car and the NOW CDs.

Yes I have 3 children and my oldest is 21.I don't like my kids listening to rap because of the bad language and all the nasty lyrics .I am sure there is some rappers that are fine but most I don't agree with.My son who is 21 listens to more rock and country now,Like the old 80's rock bands.

Only if the rap is raciest, crude, vile or teaches bad lessons... but there is alot of good rap out there! If your child is listening to 'bad rap' make sure they know the lyrics are wrong and not an exanple.

it all depends, some rap is very bad...alot teaches hate and violence, but then some is fine. alot of the time kids either listen to rap because they want to seem "cool" in the minds of their peers or older kids, or for the tunes. present him with a few different types of rap, good and bad, get his input on it and make and educated decision base on his responces to the songs, good luck

Well it depends on how old they are and what theyre listening 2 if your child is like 7 and listening to gangsta rap. Im sure that it would rub off on him. Buy some kids bop cds (I don't get why anyone would want to hear little kids sing though)

for 10+ then it's fine, but under 10 aint a good idea. if its talkin bout sex and love and violence, then HELL NO! like me cousin Aereal got a mp3 on her b-day and she's 5. her parents got pregnant in high school so they dont know better and put songs like, I know u see it which in the lyrics go : Eni meni mine moe, how many bitches in the club wanna go. I know u see it2x Its like meal male i know u want sometin, u chewin on that dick-pu$$y like a piece a bubble gum. WHICH I THINK IS TOTALLY POISINING HER MIND! and her parents let her listen to it. Now if it's just, like, Lady Sovereign or some Jay-Z but if it's talking ALOT about sex and has a bunch a cuss words then they shouldn't here then it is bad for them. I'm 12 and that's what I think!

As with anything; TV,music, and other people... what type of message is it sending to the child? We don't want to shelter them and then have them have a major shock later on; however it is important to realize that kids learn by 10% what we say and 90% what we show them.
