I don't know about good luck, but it will certainly stink up the house.
Probably drive the neighbors off as well.
Come to think of it, if you don't get on well with the neighbors, that would be good luck, wouldn't it :)

Cabbage of any kind..i.e...saurkraut, cole slaw, steamed or even cabbage rolls. Yes to the good luck, a tradition defiantly and it is an ole wives tale to be sure. In the North they serve the Kraut and Kielbasa at Midnight. Most cabbage is cooked with pork. My family always cooked the cabbage with a pork roast and had a new quarter thrown in for good luck

Oh shoot I forgot about the cabbage, I'll have to go get some to go with the black-eye peas.
Just cooking it doesn't, you have to eat it too!!
No it doesn't really bring you good luck, neither does eating B.E. peas~they are just traditional things to eat on new years day. Although I know a lot of people that swear it does bring good luck. It hasn't ever really helped me BUT it hasn't hurt either!!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!! What ever you wind up eating!

Some areas have a tradition of cabbage and black eyed peas on New Years for money and luck (cabbage is money) but no sugar...that's just an old wives tale...
There's no food you can eat to increase your "luck"...your actions and words (and other peoples) affect your life events...

Down here in the South (Tennessee) we cook up a mess of greens (Turnip greens or Collard greens or even just Spinach) and serve 'em with a steamy bowl of Black Eyed Peas 'n side meat to ensure financial prosperity in the coming new year... it's tradition.

I'm not sure about cooking it up but what I know is that according to chinese traditions, having lettuce or any green veggies for your new year's eve dinner will bring good luck ( as green represents money!!)

Never heard of that superstition. In the south they eat black-eyed peas & hog jowls for good luck. I don't do peas of any kind & certainly not touching jowls! Eat whatever you want it won't effect your future in the least.
