This hardly seems like the behavior of a loving god.

It was a test to see if Job(PBUH*) would continue to be faithful to ALLAH if he lost his wife, children and all his mortal goods.

After reading Job chapters 1 and 2, please consider the following: This challenge is but another aspect of the one that Satan presented in the Garden of Eden. There, Satan challenged the righteousness and rightfulness of God’s rule. This is serious stuff. He made this challenge not just to Adam and Eve but in front of all the angelic sons of God.

Here, in Job, Satan challenges the integrity of every single human being. Read the account. In effect, Satan is charging that (1) God bribes people to be faithful to him (does he worship you for nothing? – Job 1:10), and (2) Job was only faithful for what he could get out of it (Job 1:9). Again, just like the challenge in Eden, this requires time to answer. Satan NEVER challenges God’s power because that can be answered in a millisecond. No, Satan makes challenges that make you think and that require time to respond.

God was fully confident that Job would not take away his own integrity so he allowed Satan to try to prove his challenge. He failed – miserably. What is the point?

Satan did not just challenge Job’s integrity – he challenged the integrity of every single human – all of us. And he called into question our motive for worshiping the Most High God. The challenge he made in the garden and the challenge he made concerning Job - and by extension, us - are issues of paramount importance. We have a chance to provide our individual responses to this challenge. Are we up to it?

It was a test of love, just as was ABraham being instructed to kill his son. The biggest thing here to understand is what Job received afterwards. He got 10 times more than he ever had. That should make alot of us think. Also, Jobs friends were telling him to just accept the punishment b/c God was rendering it. In the end, his friends had to do pennance b/c they were wrong. Another words God gives us the option of questioning him if we are good people. That does not sound like an evil dictative God to me.

Job was being tested. Satan as good as said that God had bought Job's love by giving him so much, and God let him find out that Job's love was real. He has done similarly to others, and we love Him still.

I went through some similar things as Job, God was written all over it, after it was over, and I ascertain all that happen to me.

Then I remember saying to God one day, after reading the story of Job, if I was tested that way, I think I can do it to....... have to be careful what you pray for.

When he has tested me, I shall come forth as gold. Job 23:10

I went through a bad divorce, lost all my family, met some crazy girl, got set up, went to jail for 10 months, as a Innocent man, lost the rest of my life savings, stayed in jail longer just to fight the corrupted system in order not to be stuck in their system as a innocent man..... and here I saved her life that night, and I was setup...... in the end God took the life of the states only witness, the arresting officer, because he lied, and caused me more harm, and the truth was on a tape, that I didn't know he played in the car. God cleared my name, and got me off the hook, because I wouldn't bow to a lie, to a corrupted state system.
I suffered, But I have learned a lot from my experience, that transformed me even more at that time, I never deny God.

To prove to Satan Job would never leave God.

I don’t think we have any idea who wrote the story of Job, but it is a beautiful piece of literature meant to provoke thought. Since it is in the poetry section of the Old Testament I don’t think we should consider it a factual account of a man who actually lived.

If anybody hasn’t read it, you should. It is absolutely mesmerizing in the way it’s written. Even if you aren’t a believer I think you will appreciate it as art.

Much like everyone else has said, it was a test. God gave Job back more than what he started out with.
