It sounds like it may be dry skin. In winter months that can be a problem. Try using a good lotion, such as Lubriderm.

GO to a dermatorlogist is this in unusal and not just dry winter skin. You might have Psorisis or something more serious and the doctors know what to do. I have found that normal lotion is water based which just makes my hands crack even more during the cold. Lubridern has some oil based products but I happen to love Ahava and other products from the dead sea. Rich in minerals, they work better than my Psorisis meds.

Pick up some cortizone cream from your pharmacy. If that doesn't work, check in with your doctor for a look at it. He/she might determine it's a fungus and prescribe something topical to clear up the fungus and relieve the itching. If not a fungus, it could be eczema and your doctor might prescribe an ointment or steroids. Also check out WebMd.com

If there is no inflammation, sores, etc., it may be only "winter dry skin". Try a lotion (your favorite) with a moisturizer. It will indicate that on the label. If it doesn't get better in 2 weeks, see your doc.
