First reboot your PC and then when BIOS is booting press Supr or DEL in your Keyboard. Then go to advanced options in the bios and change the booting order and put as firdt boot device the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM. Save your preferences and exit from the BIOS. Then inser the Win XP CD and only follow the instructions.

You DO NOT have to install Win98.
Windows 98 is obsolete. MS does not even support it any more.
Start your computer, hit f2 or delete to get into setup, set it to boot from CD/DVD ROM first, pop in your XP cd & restart.
If your XP cd is an upgrade disc you will have to be running Win98, WinME or Win2000 to upgrade.
If this is the case, make sure your computer is capable of running Windows XP properly.
