my skin is not really light, but i burn easily. I do work long hours under the sun, and use sunscreen on my face, neck and arms, i wear jeans and boots all the time, BUT i developed this dark, almost black, irregular spot on my ankle. sometimes it bleeds a little, and it has grown a bit in the past weeks, i tried and make nothing of it since it was in an area which remains covered all the time, but now i'm doubtful wheather it's melanoma?

Go to the doctor right away. I had a friend who had had what he thought was a mole on the back of his leg for years. Then suddenly it started bothering him. They said it was melanoma and had been growing inside for years before showing symptoms on the outside. He had a huge tumor inside his leg. They also said there was evidence it had spread throughout his body. He was taken for surgery and given a 50/50 chance of survival. He was young with a wife and baby. He also is a children's pastor. The day before surgery he had the children to pray for him. He said he felt a strong burning sensation in his leg that spread throughout his body as the children were praying. The surgery was performed, and the tumor removed. He then began radiation treatments, but after only 2 treatments, the doctors could find no more evidence of cancer. He was completely healed. That was 16 years ago. Other than one leg being smaller than the other, you would never know.
Anyway, I think what you are describing should be checked out right away.

ABC's of Skin Cancer

Early detection is the surest way to a cure.

Develop a regular routine to inspect your body for any skin changes. If any growth, mole, sore or skin discoloration appears suddenly or begins to change, see your dermatologist. Each of the skin cancers can be treated if detected early.

The ABC's of skin cancer include any change or development in a mole or skin growth that should prompt you to see a dermatologist. These may include;

A- Asymmetry- You should notice the general look of your moles or growths, for example, if one half of the mole or growth does not match the other half.

B- Border Irregularity - If the edges of the growth are ragged, notched or blurred.

C- Color - The pigmentation of the growth is not uniform. Shades of tan, brown and black are present. Dashes of red, white and blue add to the mottled appearance.

D- Diameter - If the width is greater than 6 millimeters (about the size of a pencil eraser), it could be an indicator of an abnormal skin growth. Generally, any new mole growth should be a concern.

There is a lot of information by your description which makes me think that you may actually have skin cancer. The spot has irregular borders, whereas most benign skin lesions have regular borders. It also bleeds, which is a warning sign too. Plus, it has grown in just a few weeks. Please go to your primary care doctor or dermatologist ASAP. This perhaps could be nothing, but could also be skin cancer. Most likely a biopsy will need to be done to determine what it is.
