Unfortunately, once convicted of a crime you will be paying for life. you will never be able to legaly posses a firearm, not for fun, not for sport, not for anything. they will throw the damn book at you if you get caught with one.

You say your a convicted felon, and you want to target practice. First, I'm not trying to be disrespectful but, are you nuts!?. Did you read the paperwork that you signed when you were CONVICTED?. I don't know what state you're in but in most States, once you've been convicted of a felony, to even get caught with a bullet in your pocket can get you 10yrs,. As a rule of thumb your best bet is to call or go to your local Library. Most Libraries have a Legal section or a Law Library. Look up or ask the librarian about the 35 Firearms Act or look in the Master index
under Firearms. Another method would be to contact the Alcohol, Tabbaco, and Firearms Agency for information. In the mean time, I would be very careful in getting caught with or in possession of any handgun, rifle, and/or explosive until you find the info your looking for. GOD BLESS/ GOOD LUCK!

Well, while they are correct, they are also wrong as well. We would need to know what you did time for. Was it a violent crime, involving or not involving a firearm. How long have you been through with your parole. And, what is the status of overcrowding in prisons in your state.

Legally you should not being shooting. But, if you did time for embezzlement, did a couple years, did your parole, and are done, then likely you would not do any time. You would get in trouble, and possibly face more probation, but it would depend on what you initially did as to whether you went back in.

Realistically, if you are at a friends house in the country, shooting skeet, and not breaking any laws, what are the chances anyone finds out anyways.

Like I said, while technically it is illegal, there are many other things to look at as to whether you would face more time. So, everyone here is right and wrong at the same time.

in some states a convicted felon can have his/her rights to own and possess firearms restored, after the sentence is over including parole.this usually requires an attorney and a judge or state agency signing off on the idea, violent crimes will usually kill any chance of the idea, such as robbery, domestic violence,etc..in some states a black powder rifle (one that requires separate loading of powder and musket ball)is not considered a firearm by the ATF.I would check and double check b4 doing so and get it in written form, all about CYA
