Hi Jayney! Both ellipticals and treadmills offer great cardio workouts. Hands free heart rate monitoring and control, by use of a chest belt monitor, is recommended for either machine type. A good quality elliptical will actually cost a little less than a comparable treadmill. You should workout on either type of machine 20 - 30 mins per day for maximum cardio benefit.

Ellipticals are at the top of our list, as well as with our customers, when it comes to low impact, aerobic workouts. The main reason is that the machine works your heart without the impact on your legs, like other machines such as treadmills. The motion is similar to walking, thus it's quite natural. In addition, you can easily change your pace and stride, resistance setting, program, etc. in the middle of a workout, without having to stop. Plus, most ellipticals have dual action hand-grip bars that even work and tone the upper body.

Still though consumers spend more money on treadmills than any other major piece of fitness equipment. Among the reasons, the learning curve is extremely low, the exercise (walking or running) is natural, and you have an almost infinite capacity to adjust the level of exertion. The major drawbacks of treadmills are that they definitely don't provide a low impact workout and they can be quite hard on the joints in your legs.

Sorry but even though you are moving your arms on a elliptical trainer (which Makes it better than a treadmill) all you are doing is moving very light weight, they are both aerobic machines, most experts agree that a whole body workout is best, buy some cheap light dumbbells at Argos and do circuit training for 20 Min's then 20 Min's on the treadmill.

Circuit training is simply going from one exercise to the next with little or no rest.

So you could do.

1)press dumbbells above head 10 times

2)squat holding dumbbells 10 times

3)Raising dumbbells to the side 10 times

etc etc if you google "dumbbell circuit training" you will get load of workouts

Elliptical coach, with the aid of fact it burns an analogous energy, yet strengthens your muscle groups, too. additionally, whilst your on a treadmill, you walk at a quicker %. then prevalent. yet you're greater in all possibility to stroll up stairs at a classic %. on a elliptical given which you have not got any place to pass. With a treadmill, you would be on the front or back of the device. yet with the elliptical, you reside in a single place.

Elliptical trainers are pressure on your own thighs hips and spine also you can set the resistance they're like a full body exercise. I favor the elliptical trainer, because using an elliptical you get lower-body work and an upper body out.

Both are good, but I prefer the elliptical. If I stay on the treadmill too long (longer than say 30 minutes) I get dizzy. If you are not used to doing any cardio, start with no more than 20 minutes/day and slowly work up. If you can, invest in a heart rate monitor - that way you can be sure you are using your valuable exercise time to its fullest. Good luck!

I'd go with Elliptical as it is less impact on your legs if you are carrying weight. However when you do get fit from the Elliptical trainer you should go outside and run. Treadmills are bad for your body, the natural muscle usage from running outside on a track is far more natural then on the treadmill. Plus you get the fresh air and scenery.

Download your favourite tracks to see to. If you’ve committed to a half hour session a day then a 30-minute soundtrack of the very upbeat, motivating tunes will retain you pumped up!

Walk to some co-worker's desk to chat as opposed to instant messaging.
