So why does every christian on here start to preach to me about "needing God", and "immoral lifestyles". You have no idea who the heck I am, so shut up, and read what the bible says.

Strange... You seem to be saying you are a christian.. but you also say you don't need God. Sorry but that is a contradiction.

As for preaching and judging, never done it. Not to you and as far as i konw, not to anyone.

So why have you said 'every' christian and lumped the good apples in with the bad. I have read what the bible says and I know what it means too.

You should take a tip from it I think and only say 'every' when you mean 'every'. You have probably offended quite a few innocent christians and given us a metaphorical black eye with your comments.

Christians have a hard time distinguishing recognition from judjement. Recognition of what is sinful or evil is an imperative for any moral person. Pointing out the sin to the one who sins may be an effort to help, rather than judge. Judgement involves condemnation, and Jesus example teaches everyone not to do this.

John 8:6-8 (New American Standard Bible)

6They were saying this, testing Him, so that they might have grounds for accusing Him. But Jesus stooped down and with His finger wrote on the ground.

7But when they persisted in asking Him, He straightened up, and said to them, "He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her."

8Again He stooped down and wrote on the ground.

Pointing out what is wrong is very different from punishment. To judge is to punish.

You had better read more Bible!
I cut n paste from my own web site to answer this;

Q. Are we, or are we not, supposed to point out error in other peoples beliefs
or teachings? Not even question them?

A. When corrected, the person being corrected usually retorts with the Bible
quote from 1 Thessalonians 5: 19. "Quench not the Spirit,".

It is sad that they do not read down to verse 21 to find "Prove all things"!

WE ARE TO BE VIGILANT, AND COMPARE ALL BELIEFS AND TEACHINGS

WITH THAT WHICH IS TAUGHT IN THE BIBLE!

We may "counter" with;

1 John 4: 1 "Try them..."

Romans 16: 17 "Mark them..."

Ephesians 5: 11 "Have no fellowship.."

1 Thessalonians 3: 6 "Withdraw thyself.."

2 John 10: 1 "Receive them not.."

2 Thessalonians 3: 13, 14 "Have no company with them.."

Thessalonians 3: 10 "Reject them.."

2 Corinthians 6: 17 "Be ye separate.."

Revelation 18: 4 "Come out.."

2 Corinthians 11: 13 "False Apostles transform themselves.."

2 Timothy 4: 2-4 "Reprove, Rebuke, Exhort.."

1 Peter 5: 8,9 " Be sober, Vigilant.."

Galatians 1: 8,9 "We or an angel from heaven preach.."

2 John 7: 8 "Many deceivers confess not.."

1 John 3-7 "If you walk in the light-we.."

Deuteronony 22: 9-11 "Do not sow diverse seed.."

Ezekiel 4: 3 "Have nothing to do with.."

Nehemiah 9:2 "separate selves from all .."

2 Corinthians 14, 15 " Be not unequally yoked.."

Matthew 7: 20 "Beware false prophets.."

Another comment from the person whose false teachings are being pointed out
is often from Matthew 7: 1 "Judge not, that ye be not judged."!

Let us go down to read Matthew 7: 5 ~ It clearly states that after you get yourself
"straightened out" you should indeed correct others!

We are plagued with false teachers. There are many on the

television screen being watched by millions.

It is sad to realize that it is they that the general public think are the true Christians

and that their twisted thoughts are what we believe and Christianity is all about.

if you are going to use the bible in this kind of way, then you should read it yourself. The reason Christians preach these kinds of things, is because it is our duty to. God himself says to preach the gospel and the word of god. Still Christians should not jam down the throats of people the word of god, if they do not want to hear it than fine. Anyway the bible says not to judge/cast judgment onto people who have sinned, for all humans have sinned so Christians themselves do not have the authority to judge people. The Judgment shall be cast by god himself.

There is a difference between judging and holding someone accountable for their sins by reminding them of the truth. Some Christians can be very judge mental, but at the same time there are many well meaning Christians who are trying to remind you of the truth as they see it,it is not a judgment of who you are and what you do as a person,it is a reminder to follow the truth and that you have an eternal soul, which needs a savior. No one has the right to judge anyone's actions nor shun them as no one is without sins, but it is our duty and out of Love that we remind someone that they may not being going down a good road.

why do people who are not christians tell christians to read the bible? stand up for what you believe. if you don't believe in what the bible says, then you should not be telling anyone to read it.

also, if you study the bible, it says more than just not to judge. people often read one line of the bible and put if off as if they know something about it. you must take more than just a few words to come up with things to say. it says do not judge unless the one who is judging does the same. for example, if i curse, then i cannot tell someone else who curses that they shouldn't curse.

going back on now knowing that you are a christian, i have always been told this one thing, whenever it is dificult to tell that a person is a christian, a change needs to be made. i am dealing with the same thing myself. i want people to know that i am a christian by my actions. i got tired of having to, and still sometimes having to, tell people that i am a christian. i'm in the process of making some life changes. i don't know you but hopefully you will examine your own life and continue reading the bible and figure out if you need to also make changes. i you can honestly say that there is nothing in your life that you need to improve, then that's up to you. in the end, God is the true judge and christians should have a certain amount of fear based on how we live our lives.

I feel I don't need a religion to believe in God.

Also, On Christians, it's a Religion, group. But it's also individual members that have their own perspective and understanding on every issue.

What I understand is we as people should not judge, and in that alone is God's job.... when the time comes. God knows we all have the ability to change, therefore we can be forgiven, if we sincerely ask for forgiveness...... so I tend to leave judgment to God.

All Christians as well as any other religion, each member is at their own spiritual level of knowledge and understanding, and as they learn they move to a higher level of understanding.

I am certainly not judging you; I just want to give a correct biblical explanation of judging. A careful examination of Christ's command, "Do not judge, or you too will be judged" (Matthew 7:1), in light of what He said next, indicates His meaning. He said, "You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye" (Matthew 7:5). He simply was saying that we should not seek to correct a person when we are guilty of the same or another offense. We need to deal with our own sin, and then we can help someone else. He never intended that His disciples should set aside all exercise of discernment or judgment.

Later in the same message Jesus said, "Watch out for false prophets ... A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit ... Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them" (Matthew 7:15-20). We may and we must exercise the discernment God has given to us as to another's words and deeds. God alone, of course, knows the motives and intent of a person's heart.

It is also important to consider the spirit in which we seek to correct someone else. Even if we are not guilty of the same offense, we have been guilty enough of other offenses. We need to judge or correct another in a spirit of love, compassion, and humility. The Bible says, "Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted. Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ" (Galatians 6:1-2).

Actually..... Matt 7:1-5

"Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. 3 And why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me remove the speck from your eye'; and look, a plank is in your own eye? 5 Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye. NKJV

The verse is an inditement on using a false standard. We all are going to be judged by God. He sets the standard. If we judge others, we will be judged by the same standerd by which we judge. If someone "judges you" with the Bible as their standard, they know that the Bible is the standard by which God will judge them. It is a lost concept in our postmodern world but there are moral absolutes in life, and God established those absolutes in the tennor of his entire scripture. Here is an example.: If someone "judges someone else for being homosexual, they will be judged by the same standard of scripture.
1 Cor 6:9-11
9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God. NKJV
So someone who is an adulterer or thief or drunkard will be juged by God the same way God judges a homosexual. The Good news is that God in His grace forgives our former sin and makes a way for us to be right with God the Father.
YOU ASKED A GREAT QUESTION!

2006-12-30 04:14:15 · answer #10 · answered by Roll_Tide! 5 · 1 0

We all need God, or we're doomed.

Sharing information about God, the salvation that comes from Jesus Christ, and telling folks that without such a gift they are bound for hell is not judging them. In fact, we were in the same position as those we share with. We lived in sin. We rejected God's gift. But then we opened our hearts to the truth. We are merely beggars telling other beggars where to get bread.

Let me tell you what the Bible does say about judging.

The verse you mention in your question is Matthew 7:1ff. Specifically, the first two verses are the most relevant.

"Stop judging, so that you won't be judged. For with the judgment you use, you will be judged. And with the measure you use, you will be measured."

Now, to understand the statement properly, you must know what the word "judge" means in the Greek.

The Greek word translated "judge," is "krino," (pronounced kree'-no) and is Strong's Reference # 2919. It means, properly; to distinguish, i.e. decide (mentally or judicially); by implication, to try, condemn, or punish. This means that we are not to condemn others to hell.

We cannot know the heart of any individual. But, if someone doesn't know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, we are commanded to share Him with them. (Matthew 28:19-20) It isn't a condemnation. If you refuse to listen, that is between you and God.

But there are spiritual truths that do exist. "Indeed, just as people are appointed to die once and after that to be judged..." (Hebrews 9:27). Wouldn't it be better to face God with a pardon for your sin, rather than trying to justify yourself before Him? That's really what we are all about.

Consider what great love He has for you by providing a way of escape from such a final judgment.
