I believe WW2 and Iraqi was are close with just under 3,000.
There was about 58,000 lost in Vietnam and the war lasted about 10 year. I was a teen and young adult then and I can tell you it was similar to this war in that part of America agreed with the war and part were in protest. There was many in protest though that got off their buns and ralled harder to stop the war. Many of the songs of the 60's and early 70's were protest songs (give peace a chance).
So many girlfriends, wives and families were left to grieve for the many soldiers who returned in black bags or with terrible wounds.
Many with mental problems, no legs, no arms, paralized, loss of sight, loss of hearing, one lung, and more. It is the same in this war but you never hear about the 24,000 home with disabilities.
Look on the streets today and you will see the Vietnam vet who is homeless or living in shelters. Why? They not only lost their health and had disabilites, the US government never paid money to take care of them. They tossed them asside and nothing will be different in this war. It is happening now.
How would you feel to be a soldier, serve your country in battle, lose your legs, come home, be released from the military, can not get a job to support your family, and have to go on welfare at $500 per month and disability at $400 a month. Try surviving.
War is War and nothing is new. Our military does the dirty work that our governement pushes down their throats. So give thanks to our VETS.
