Have regular family meals.
Serve a variety of healthy foods and snacks.
Be a role model by eating healthy yourself.
Avoid battles over food.
Involve kids in the process.
But it's not easy to take these steps when everyone is juggling busy schedules and convenience food, such as fast food, is so readily available. Here are some suggestions to help you incorporate all five strategies into your routine:

Family Meals
Family meals are a comforting ritual for both parents and kids. Children like the predictability of family meals and parents get a chance to catch up with their kids. Kids who take part in regular family meals are also:

more likely to eat fruits, vegetables, and grains
less likely to snack on unhealthy foods
less likely to smoke, use marijuana, or drink alcohol
In addition, family meals offer the chance to introduce your child to new foods and find out which foods your child likes and which ones he or she doesn't.

Teens may turn up their noses at the prospect of a family meal - not surprising because they're trying to establish independence. Yet studies find that teens still want their parents' advice and counsel, so use mealtime as a chance to reconnect. Also, consider trying these strategies:

Allow your teen to invite a friend to dinner.
Involve your teen in meal planning and preparation.
Keep mealtime calm and congenial - no lectures or arguing.
What counts as a family meal? Any time you and your family eat together - whether it's takeout food or a home-cooked meal with all the trimmings. Strive for nutritious food and a time when everyone can be there. This may mean eating dinner a little later to accommodate a child who's at sports practice. It can also mean setting aside time on the weekends, such as Sunday brunch, when it may be more convenient to gather as a group.

Stocking Up on Healthy Foods
Kids, especially younger ones, will eat mostly what's available at home. That's why it's important to control the supply lines - the foods that you serve for meals and have on hand for snacks. Follow these basic guidelines:

Work fruits and vegetables into the daily routine, aiming for the goal of 5 servings a day.
Make it easy for your child to choose healthy snacks by keeping fruits and vegetables on hand and ready to eat. Other good snacks include yogurt, peanut butter and celery, or whole-grain crackers and cheese.
Serve lean meats and other good sources of protein, such as eggs and nuts.
Choose whole-grain breads and cereals so your child gets more fiber.
Limit fat intake by avoiding deep-fried foods and choosing healthier cooking methods, such as broiling, grilling, roasting, and steaming.
Limit fast food and other low-nutrient snacks, such as chips and candy. But don't completely ban favorite snacks from your home. Instead, make them "once-in-a-while" foods, so your child doesn't feel deprived.
Limit sugary drinks, such as soda and fruit-flavored drinks. Serve water and milk instead.
By drinking milk, kids also boost their intake of calcium, which is important for healthy bones. That means 800 milligrams (mg) a day for kids ages 6 to 8 and 1,300 mg a day after age 9. To reach the 1,300-mg goal, your child could have:

1 cup (237 milliliters) of milk (300 mg of calcium)
1 cup (237 milliliters) of calcium-fortified orange juice (300 mg of calcium)
2 ounces (57 grams) of cheese (300 mg of calcium)
1 cup (237 milliliters) of yogurt (315 mg of calcium)
1/2 cup (118 milliliters) of cooked white beans (120 mg of calcium)

I do not believe in slow metabolism...there is some truth to "you are what you eat".

The best way to lose weight and to keep it off is to change your eating lifestyle

1. Portion control
2. Lose the cookies, cakes, fried foods, fast foods, cream sauces, etc. However once in a while in moderation meaning, one small serving will not make you gain weight
3. Eat lots of fiber
4. Exercise...doesn't have to be a gym, walk as much as you can or just be active any physical activies that you like and can stick with it. Bottom line...keep moving.

The healthy food list is to stay away from processed foods, fried, cream sauces, cookies, cakes, fast foods, candies. Anything that is natural is good for you and you either bake, broil, steam or boil.

If you follow these suggestions, I promise you will lose weight slowly but surely. There are no quick fixes to losing weight only the honest way.

Also, the biggest thing is to forgive yourself if you over eat. The key thing is to go back to your healthy way of eating the next day,.

Good Luck!

I found the book to be very informative and easy to read.

I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off.

It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise.

Weight loss Success comes from FINDING WHAT WORKS then DOING WHAT WORKS.

I can help you with the first but the second part is up to you.

Before you can turn your body into a fat burning machine, here’s what needs to happen: your body fat needs to be released from the fat cells. You can accomplish this step successfully with your nutrition program. Here are some specific tips that you can apply right away to achieve that.

1.Eat 4-6 small, frequent meals and never skip meals.
2.Eat natural foods; avoid processed & refined foods
3.Eat lean proteins with each meal.
4.Eat more complex carbs, fruits & vegetables.
5.Drink plenty of water

How does your body burn the fat?

When you go on a restrictive diet and then combine it with excessive cardiovascular workouts. You are destined to reach the dreaded weight loss plateau.

Here is the reason behind the plateau; you have burned more muscle tissue than fat with your workouts (and restrictive dieting). This is the worst thing that could happen if you want long term and permanent results.

Let me explain.

Excessive cardio + restrictive dieting = Less Muscle mass = slower metabolism = Weight loss plateau = Yo-Yo dieting

So how do you break this vicious cycle?

How to burn fat instead muscle mass?

You need to do some MODERATE cardio training. The key word here is moderate.
Combining restrictive dieting with too much cardio can be detrimental and I am sure you have seen those people that are doing cardio on a daily basis and still not getting anywhere. The result is a low metabolism. Low metabolism means, your body fat is not going anywhere, anytime soon. Here is what you need to do:

1.Do some moderate cardio training; the key word here is moderate
2.Never “diet” but consume just a little fewer calories than you do burn on a daily basis (No starvation diets, Please...)

Your muscle tissue is your best friend when it comes to burning body fat. You need to preserve muscle tissues in order to keep losing weight.

Most people go on a starvation diet combined a lot of cardio to lose weight. At first it may seems like this is working because the scale is saying so.

Now think about, scale weight does not tell you if weight loss is from fat, water or muscle tissue. Starvation diets combined with excessive cardio make you lose mostly muscle mass, water weight.

Scale weight by itself is not a good indicator of success.

The solution

To maintain muscle mass you need to:

Do some resistance training. (This is not optional, it is mandatory)

CHANGE IS HARD, but it's also worth it. Not getting results makes change EXTREMELY HARD.

Get support from friends, family or a coach who knows about body transformation. Losing weight is not as hard at it seems once you know what works for YOU.

Eat lots of fruits and vegetables and stay away from junk food. Try to give up eating sweets for some time and when you are hungry reach for fruit. The fibet in fruit will keep you full and satisfy your hunger pangs. Fruit is also good for you.

You can also keep cut up vegetables and low fat dips on hand to eat when you are hungry.

The only secret in loosing weight is a healthy combination of.... DIET, EXERCISE & DISCIPLINE. ;)

Healthy foods are lean meat, veggies and fruits. I know someone who just ate baked chicken breast (without the skin, any seasonings and sauces), sweet potatoes and supplements for one month while exercising.. he got his desired weight. Good Luck!
